I know on the board there is a lot of talk about so many of the new VA dogs are oversized. Do you think it's because of humans breeding for larger dogs or because of the availability of higher quality food. I know back when the breed was formed there wasn't as much advancement in that area. Also does it have to do with the country in which the dog lives. The reason I say this is because looking at the Asian population in a American they are considerably taller and larger than those who live in their home countries.
I have also noticed size is a problem in most breeds. I also own my frist small dog which happens to be a miniature schnauzer, she comes from AKC Champion lines and seems to be within the standard but while searching for her I've noticed many breeders had female mini schnauzers that were twenty pouds and males that were twenty four pounds, it just seems to be a natural trend for our dogs to be getting bigger.
What are your thoughts?

Over-sized is about the dogs being taller than the standard height - not simply heavier.
As far as food is concerned, it has nothing to do with it being more "nutritious" even though there is a wider range and greater availability of "organic" dog foods to pet owners in the USA.
Livestock are subjected to treatment with antibiotics and growth hormones. So it's fairly safe to say that such additives it might very well affect animals (and even fish) go into by-products or even meat that is human grade that eventually end up in various types of dog food.
I have also heard that some breeders use growth hormones as a direct route to bulking up their dogs.
However they achieve it, American values have already pervaded foreign cultures due to globalization, whether it comes to standards of beauty or the belief that "bigger is better".
Take your pick. But it's most likely a little of everything.
You might also notice foreign ads that sell over-sized dogs specifically to Americans. (e.g. dogs of 70cm)
