The shortest distance from no website to a  feature rich website is to use a template like those available at www.myflashxml.com/  Customizing and/or updating the site's content is as simple as editing a text .xml file and uploading photos.  You can't beat the look and functionality you get for a few hundred dollars.

For hosting, I use ipowerweb.net/ which gives me more space and bandwidth than I've ever needed, unlimited email accounts and access to all sorts of features and applications including the ability to stack additional sites onto the primary domain.  I've had my personal site keithgrossman.com/ (uses a flash xml template) parked there for years with virtually no site downtime...a little over $10.00 a month billed quarterly.
