For those feeding Orijen, how are you liking it and how do the dogs look coat wise, etc.  WEight??  Stamina??

Which formula has worked best for you and why??

by DannyJ on 03 March 2010 - 16:03

Ive fed Orijen for a couple years. I like all the formulas...coats, stools are ok. The thing about it is while I really like it, I think its not the best food for all dogs. Its a very rich food.
I have actually used the no grain Acana for a couple months now... dogs seem to do well on it as well.
(same company, cheaper, and very comparable food)

Thanks for your response Dan:  I cannot use a RICH food, it won't work for my dogs.  I have a brochure on Acana and will look into that.  Thx  Nan

My dog is fed Orijen...I don't think that it is too rich. What do you mean by rich? If the dog gets fat, cut back the portion.
Neither of my dogs have problems on it. I've alternated between the various formulas...the standard chicken based Orijen for adults, the regional red (boar and bison) formula, and now I'm on a bag of Acana Grasslands (lamb and duck). Good stools, high energy, great condition, great coats.

I think he looks in good condition, you be the judge:

Definitely looks great from what I can tell of the pix,  you would know if that dark coat went to hell.

Believe me, he takes a while for a coat like that to come back IF the food isn't working.  Thx  Nan

Interesting you should say that...this is what he looked like the week I got him (fed Canidae):

I think he still looks good in this pic, but his coat looks better nowadays. It's hard to tell with the sables sometimes...could have been that his coat was still changing from puppyhood.

I fed orijen for a bit, about 6 months. Decided the protein content was a little much so I switched to acana. Dog is doing better and looks great.
