Interceptor or heartgard?

I have heard that they are both pretty much the same other than the fact that heartgard does not prevent against whipworm- but how common is whipworm?

Just curious what others prefer.

Amanda both are very good products, depending on what area you live whipworms can be a problem. I make sure I do a fecal once to twice a year.
Always,

I use revolution.  It does both hearthwarm and flees.   So it has worked wonder for me.  My dog never has flees and she has never had heart worms.

I use the Interceptor for heart worms only,
have your dogs tested for all parasites including heart worms at least once per year minimum, I prefer early winter.

I was told by a Vet even dogs using heart worm preventative have been found to have heart worms.

Use something else for fleas and ticks in combination with a heart worm preventative.

I'm still using Frontline Plus and an occasional kennel dip.

I live in the South and Heartworms are a real problem.  Most vets recommend Heartguard Plus and I use BioSpot for fleas and ticks. Never have had a problem.  Down here the land so swampy that the mosquitos grow so big some people call the it the "State Bird". So you can imagine how many fleas and ticks we deal with, but  like I said the BioSpot Spot is working.

I have my dog on Interceptor for Heartworm preventative.  My vet said it kills all worms except Tapeworm.

I have him on Frontline Plus for Fleas / Ticks --  I am satisfied with it.

"Most vets recommend Heartguard Plus and I use BioSpot for fleas and ticks."

Ditto and ditto.  I'm in an area of the Northeast with a lot of wetlands, so I'm no stranger to hungry mosquitos either.

The BioSpot works pretty well, although every tick season there are always a few ticks here and there that it doesn't get.  I think some of the ingestible flea/tick treatments may be a little more effective than BioSpot,  but I'm leery of using them.

i use generic heartguard at half the price of regular heartguard. i use advantage that i pay about 20.00 less than places in the states charge. i also use a wormer that treats for all worms including tape worm for about an eighth of the price a vet would charge.

if you would like further info please pm me.

I've used Sentinel for years; no heartworm, hookworms, whipworms, roundworms or fleas.

I've used 1% ivermectin oral liquid for heartworm prevention for many years.  It's inexpensive and a small bottle lasts a long time. I use Interceptor with breeds that can't have ivermectin products (Shelties, Collies, etc)

I use Safeguard paste a few times per year as a preventative for intestinal worms.

The bonus with Frontline Plus is that you can wash the dog inbetween applications and it is still effective.
