I use this method and I think that it does indeed make a difference. Of course this is my opinion. :) Along with all the other things... sights, sounds, surfaces.

I've done these things also but now the pups are about 3 weeks old and I wondered if there are other things I could or should be doing to help them build confidence ect???

Agar,
At what age would you think a pup might benefit from some of these techniques?
One thing I do is hang objects from strings in the kennel for the pups to bite at and fight over, ball, socks, rags, tugs, whatever I have.
Also tugs and rags on the floor of the kennel, I think one of the best activities is tug o war between pups as soon as they are old enough to notice these things and make use of them.
Somewhere around six weeks.
Moons.
P.S.
When I think of the word imprinting it has a different meaning to me than this stimulating, thats just me I guess.

I have already started putting things in there for them to keep busy with. A friend of mine told me to put empty plastic water bottles with change in them and have some hanging down, some laying inside for them to bite at and play with. They've already started showing interest in them but seem to prefer to want to bite and pounce on each other rather than the bottles. lol
I love watching them change as the days pass. Funny how the smallest one at birth can turn into the biggest at 3 weeks, or the most laid back all of a sudden comes alive.
They get a lot of interaction with us so I'm not concerned about the social development; just want to really try to build confidence, eliminate stress and keep em healthy. 1/2 the litter is sold and all to working homes so I really want to take extra steps to help them along the right way as long as I have them in my care.

I like them also, mainly for the sound they make, its a surprise to them at first.
I use empty two liter pop bottles and have to change them often.

One just started growly and picking on its litter-mates, she even went for my finger at one point while I was handling them.
It does seem to just come on all of a sudden.
Another thought,
Try separating each pup from the litter for a bit, long enough for them to know they are alone and settle down to it.
I feel this builds confidence, self reliance.
