Regent city leaders discussing whether to ban pit bulls and Rottweilers from town decided Thursday to possibly throw German shepherds into the banned mix as well.
The town council was presented with a signed petition this week, asking to
ban the first two breeds from the community and after discussion, decided to see about adding the third.
The petition was started by Patty Robbins, the grandmother of a man who
purchased three pit bull puppies and brought them home to Regent on Monday. The grandma said she did it out of fear for her grandson's four boys. Shby VomMarischal on 20 February 2010 - 19:02
grandson's four boys. She likened it to giving them a loaded shotgun and hoping it didn't go off.
The family drama was stepped up another notch because the pit bull owner's mother owns three German shepherds.
All of the family - grandmother, daughter and grandson - moved to Regent
from Oregon in the past several years.
The daughter, Tammy Robinson, said her German shepherds are being targeted because of who she is.
She said one of her German shepherds is an escape artist but doesn't cause
trouble, while several black Labradors have attacked at least one other dog and frightened a resident into running into his house.
"The town is going after certain people more than the dogs," she said.
Robinson said she signed her mother's petition to ban her own son's pit
bulls from town, but now wishes she hadn't.
Now that her dogs' future is in question, Robinson said she could support
her son's pit bulls, "if he's willing to build a fence and take care of
them. I'll muzzle my dogs if people are that afraid of them."
City Auditor Karen Kouba said the council will hold a public hearing on an
amendment to its vicious animal city ordinance at 7 p.m. March 8 at the
Regent City Hall.

No offense to ND, but it doesn't seem like they are dealing with some of the brightest bulbs in the box, here, lolby LAVK-9 on 20 February 2010 - 19:02
What is it that people just don't get...it isn't the breed per say it is the owners that raise them and lack the control from not getting them rained or raising the right way!!! If they are going to ban dog breeds then lets start banning people too!!! There are more mentaly unstable people out there then there are dogs!! So lets start banning the idiots or the world as well. I'm more for that then banning any breed of dog. I have trained many breeds and yes there are some I personaly don't like but there are the few of that breed that I have liked. It is that dog in general....NOT THE BREED!! No wonder why I don't like people that much.

Yeah, but sadly it's the dim bulbs that make us all look bad! Then the people with whole brains have to go to these city entities to make a case that the dogs are fine and the people in question should be banned.
I can't even do the math, trying to figure out how many humans and dogs are in that family....by AKGeorgias mom on 20 February 2010 - 20:02
So the grandmother started a petition to ban her grandson's dogs, the mother signed the petition, and then the mother's dogs were added to the breed list. Sounds less like a dog problem than a people problem. Makes me wonder why they left Oregon for North Dakota.

He made a lot of them!!! LOLby LAVK-9 on 20 February 2010 - 20:02
LOL thats funny Avery!!! Never saw that one. Here's one.Sorry I know it is WAY off topic. On topic though.....there are quite a few not so bright people out here as well. I have seen so many strays or the way people talk about animals in general here. So many times I have to bite my tongue or hold my hand back from slapping them for being so ignorant.
