Hi, I'm thinking about starting to use Ivermectin for heartworm and worm protection. I know your supposed to do .1cc per 10lbs of dog, but I dont know how your supposed to dilute it. My dad suggested I just use the Zimecterin Gold paste because it kills tapeworms too, but I'm not sure.

Also, what would you suggest to use for Tapeworm prevention with the ivermectin?

Thank you, Haley

I have several dogs and a great vet.  I took the weights of all my dogs to my vet and she figured the formula for each of them for me.  I had seen so many different calculations online.  Maybe this will work for you?

Haley,
I've used ivermectin for about 25yrs and have never diluted it at all. Just put in the back of their mouth. Never had any problems at all. As for tape worms, I have never had a problem with them. But I occaisonally give a shot of droncit, which is an injection. Droncit is a prescription that I got from my vet. Hope this helps.

I use the Ivermectin for my dogs as it is cheaper when you have a few dogs to care for.I have put it in my dogs food or just squirt it in their mouth.(Just take the needle off the syringe lol) For Tape worm I have used panacure or there is another thing comparable to it.I am not sure about  the Zimecterin.

Thank you very much for replying.  I will ask my vet about it as well when I go to get my girl's hips done.  But just to make sure, does everyone (or most) agree that it doesn't need to be diluted?

Thanks all!

I think you are foolish to take a dose off a website. There are far too many people who do not know what they are doing when it comes to doses. I have seen incorrect doses here as well as elsewhere. The product you use may or may not need to be diluted and a small error in math can cause trouble. Do yourself a favor and ask your vet for the proper medication or dose, or be certain you buy a product that is already formulated for DOGS and is therefore a simple administration.

Well I never have and i have been giving it to my dogs as long as I have had them...well the one 6 years.I was told by a Dobe breeder that happens to be a vet about it in the first place.SO I can pretty much say you don't have to dilute it. Just make sure it is the 1% sterile solution for cattle and swine.
All the best on the hips

Hallix you are right on the dose.1 tenth of a cc per 10 pounds. It is fine if you are a little over. As I said a vet told me about it and the vets I worked for oked it as well.

Never use any thing but the Ivemec 1% solution...the other Invemec had things NOT FOR DOGS!
.I think you better consult your vet...again...for the amount for whatever dog you have...   People get the amounts mixed up with treatment of the  Red Mange and the heartworm dose.....and treatment of pups with scabbies or rashes.

I know what it is   ..I too have used it for pups, with a break out of a rash.....for Heartworm prevention and for treatment of Red Mange...

Do not ever buy the Ivemec PLUS...never

No it does not need to be diluted.....use a treat of raw hamburger meat or raw meat , peanut butter immediately or a piece of cheese so it doesnt taste bad...
I suggest never putting in food...you may not get it into the dog...it may go to bottom or not be eaten correctly...
Stick the syringe part into corner of mouth at the back....squirt in immediately and give a meat treat.

I do not use on any other breed but German shepherds..MY cocker spaniels use intercepter or Heartguard.

Some people dilute it with propylene glycol but its kind of greasy and messy I just use it straight  You can use the horse stuff with the droncit in it if the dog has tapes but you have to be really careful because that is 1.87 percent solution and people constantly overdose them on the horse stuff  what ever you do don't dispense it from the tube!  You are better off buying the droncit or its generic version over the counter , You should be able to get the fleas under control so you did not have to tapeworm every month The type of tapeworm that panacur kills its not the variety they get from fleas I think its the type they get from eating rabbits
