he was a smooth coated parson russell. the dogs had escaped and killed my dog while he was on a walk.
it was the most tragic experience.

All of the Newfies I have known have been very sweet. But there are always exceptions, in every breed.

Saying that it doesn't excuse or ease the pain of loosing your lil guy to an attack, regardless of the breed of the dog that attacked him. When you get more than one dog you get into pack behavior... and small dogs, especially bold ones who will stand and fight rather than cower and run away often get the bad end of it. So sorry for your loss

Not to hijack, but add to the Pyr stories.. I used to groom one who was about 6 years old. Owner had him since he was a puppy. One time I blocked off half my day to groom him and the owner never showed up. I was friends with him so called him and left bitchy messages.
Well, he came in the next day with half of one side of his face stitched up. And his ear had nearly been torn off. Apparently the dog had gotten into a bag of food and when the owner went to pull him away, the dog mauled him.
He brought the dog to the pound to be euthanized. Lo and behold another acquaintance went to the pound about a week later and saw him there UP FOR ADOPTION. The shelter workers thought he was too sweet to be PTS!!! Anyway, the owner was able to take him and brought him to a vet where he made sure the dog was destroyed.
Scary thought, especially with such a large and powerful breed.

Our neighbour has many sheep. From 8 wk old pups, his GP's are put in with the sheep. They stay with the sheep 24/7. You see them in the fields with them. Amazing really
However, you wouldn't want to go in the field with them without the owner.
