Not a cloud in the sky and 65 degrees I am wearing shorts and a T-shirt for the first time in I don't know how long. Gave the dogs a bath in late morning, took them down the street to the park to dry off and play ball. I usually take my dogs out 2-4 times a day to play until they are whiped out. I had to leave the park on our second trip because a pitbull showed up with no owner. I put the dogs up and waited awhile and tried to head out again...damn dog is laying on the corner of the park I stand in to throw the ball for my guys. Tried to call AC but it's a Holiday.
The damn dog is female and didn't appear aggressive, she wanted to walk up to us and say hi but I'm just not wanting to risk anything. No way I could seperate the dogs if something did happen. I HATE people who let their dogs roam! Sorry just ranting.

I deal with that EVERYDAY!!! My neighbors just let their not so friendly Lab roam.THe other day he bit the gf's daughter and she had to go get stiches. So the dog was takend away.Thought the problem was solved but they are now watching a friends Akita/Chow mix cause that friend went to jail for about 20years!! THAT big nasty thing roams all over and craps over in my area of the place. So I told him to pkease keep it confined or tied out on something sturdy.I have a new GSD that is very dog aggressive and has become protective of me and the house. He said "sure no problem"HA!!! first thing this morning I take Zane the dog aggressive one out and what is around the corner....the Akitachow. So I thew him in my truck(closer then the house door) and waited.Bad thing is AC doesn't come up this way much as we are kinda out of the way from town.SUCKS!!! I have seen more strays here then anywhere I have ever lived!!

I take a riding crop with me and if the dogs come too close I give them a very hard whack with it. They go away. If the come back, I use pepper spray on them. After the first time, when they see me coming, the hightail it!

Good idea! I use to have a riding crop but I think it was one of the many things that were left behind by accident in my move. I was thnking of a spray gun with vinagar and water.I use to use that on my cats that would go on the counter.Drove me nuts. The one learned quick the others liked water so that didn't work.lol With the dog though I Really don't want him close enough to be able to swat him on the nose.MAybe my horse lunging whip.lol

A crop or pepper spray might be effective if you are just walking your dogs, but 4pack is trying to throw the ball for her dogs - what good is either a crop or pepper spray when the stray gets involved and tries to run after her dogs to get the ball after she throws it or is just plain aggressive and takes off after her dogs when they are running after the ball she just threw? Sounds like the makings of a dog fight to me.
I'm sorry 4pack, I hate when that happens too. I took mine to the park today too and had a similar problem. I just wanted to practice send outs and dumbbells but had to leave for the same reason.

Please tell me why you hate people that let their dogs ROAM! were your DOGS off leash in a public park? If you risk a dog fight in a public park then you do NOT HAVE FULL CONTROLL OF YOUR DOG! Maybe in liberal california one can let theri dog run off leash in public! In Illinois that is illegal and for good reason! the cardinal rule is to ALWAYS HAVE CONTROLL OF YOUR DOG! To take your dog to a public park and throw a ball to it is irresponsible! Way to many variables that will always happen! but then you rail on those who are only doing what you are! Being irresponsible!

Obviously, there is a difference between taking dogs to a park,WITH THE OWNER PRESENT AND ACCOUNTABLE and just letting your dog run loose, WITHOUT THE OWNER EVEN IN THE SAME ZIPCODE, so it can end up at a park , UNATTENDED, with other dogs and children present.
Also, many cities, have DOG PARKS, or sections of parks in which dogs are allowed to be off leash, LEGALLY. Even in such parks, RESPONSIBLE owners must be present to control their dogs. Remember, however foolish it may be, people often people bring children to those dog parks. No matter how many times you tell a 5-8 year old not to run around dogs, they will do it every time. In the blink of an eye, a kid turns into a "rabbit." A loose, UNATTENDED dog in such circumstances is a tragedy waiting to happen.

Well allow me to clear the issue up fast mystere! On day last year at the early morning tracking traing session held at a forest preserve at 6:oo am ! I was the only person left on the feild and arrogantly presumed I could allow My dog off leash! No sooner did I drop the leash a conservation officer pulled up and looked directly at me and my dog! With a finger indicating he wanted me to come to his squad car ! I ran after my dog and retreived her! When we got to the squad car the conservation officer said" never ever loose complete controll of your dog period! So your argument is mute! second example being I was fishing at a lake early one morning with the dog on leash! No one else around on this 12 acre overgrown lake so I had dog on leash with my foot on top of leash casting for bass! Well who do you thinks shows up unanounced and quietly? A conservation officer checking for permits! My dog reacted to an intruder but I did NOT HAVE TOTAL CONTROLL AND SHE SLIPPED MY LEASH UNDER FOOT!She chased the officer who DREW HIS FIREARM AND RAN FROM HER! i CALLED HER TO PLATZ BUT SHE DID NOT RESPOND! tHE OFFICER WAS LAYING DOWN FACE FIRST WHILE DOG LICKED HIS NECK!pOINT IS ALWAYS HAVE CONTROLL OF YOUR ANIMAL AT ALL TIMES AND ALL PLACES OTHERWISE YOU COULD LOOSE IT! THE OFFICER COULD HAVE SHOT MY DOG AND BEEN FULLY JUSTIFIED ! THER IS NO EXCUSE FOR NOT HAVING FULL CONTROLL OF ONES ANIMAL! sORRY FOR CAPS button stuck!
