So by now most of you know about my girl. She is Czech lines, Sch I, coming up on 3 years old and I love her like mad. She's been a wonderful introduction to Schutzhund for me as well as a perfect family companion. She was with me this past September for long walks on the beach after my mother passed away and is my constant traveling companion.
My father has been visiting with us regularly since my mother died. He grew up around dogs, ranging from working bird dogs to his own pet Huskies and currently labradors. He spoils them a little, I don't fuss anymore as he has two labs who are now his companions since my mother died.
Well, the labs sleep on the bed with him. My girl was raised for most of her life that the bed and the couch were no zones. Since she has worked for it, she is now allowed couch privledges and she cutes her way into bed privledges with me sometimes.
Before anyone says anything, no this does not make her aggressive or territorial about the bed, usually if she's in my way I boot her off or tell her to shove over and she mumbles and goes to the floor.
The past few nights she's been sleeping on the guest bed with my father, the way the labs do and he was chuckling about how she takes over down at his feet and he ends up having to sleep all curled up in a ball. I said:
"Dad, just shove her with your foot."
My father gave me a wry look and bluntly proclaimed.
"RLHAR, you could not pay me to give that dog a shove with my foot."
I arched an eyebrow and chuckled at him.
My father is not afraid of her but he is very respectful of her, more so than with his own labs (before anyone gets the wrong idea, they are both rescues and live the lives of queens) or even my lab, who he casually will knee out of the way or push aside if they are in his way. The Shepherd, he just calmly states he is much more respectful of both her training and the look about her and he's not about to push her around.
So ... there are dogs and there are Shepherds. :D

It's true!
My brother acts the same way. I'll play around with lukas' teeth because they tend to just..show from under his "lips" when he rolls over and really doesn't care about anybody handleing his mouth and my brother wouldn't put a hand near him, let alone his mouth with teeth hanging out even though all he wanted was a belly scratch. While we also have a Flat Coated Retriever he'll goof around with her kinda push her aside and tell her to go away when she gets too nosey..Eventually he got used to him and became really fond of him. :)

GSD are not the same as other dogs, that's true.
