Sorry for not being more specific....

Dan and I bought a dog from our Jim's breeder. He suggested we have someone look at him before he was shipped. We were going to have him shipped directly to our trainer in Kentucky to train for and complete his Sch. 2&3 titles, and upon completion bring him home to be our house dog.
Because of the time of year Dan could not get away, and our trainer had obligations at his kennel, so he suggested a friend of his in Denmark.
Our dog was supposed to come with this friend to Kentucky last Friday. When we called to find out how the dog was we were told that he had chased a cat and run away, so they did not make the flight.
We call Denmark many times a day...but get no answer..just the voicemail. Although we've left numerous messages we get no return calls. We tried e-mail and recieved one back saying "call my cell and if I can talk to you I will."
We keep in touch with our friend in Kentucky, but he has little news. We contacted the breeder and he also has not been able to reach the man in Denmark.
We asked our friend in Kentucky yesterday if he could tell his friend in Denmark that we would offer a $5000 reward for the dogs safe return. We also asked if local vets and vets in surrounding areas had been contacted.
We have been told the local police were notified...but we can't find a phone # to contact them...and of course, we don't speak the language.

We've heard nothing so far today.
If someone out there has a contact # for the police in Them, Denmark..that would be really helpful...

And to the person who wrote such kind words about our Jim...thank you so much. There isn't a day that goes by that we don't miss him terribly...it is very hard losing a much loved family member.

sounds to me like your dog was stolen, or sold by the trainer there - keep bothering h im - call every day, many times per day, he's got some explaning to do.  He's responsible for your dog - it will be more difficult because of the foreign country but perhaps you need to also speak to an attorney about options.  Also your trainer in KY should step up and help - he is the one who recommended this trainer to you, he needs to take some responsibility to get that dog back as well.

What a mess! I can understand how upset you must be at not having your phone calls returned!  I'm afraid Molly may be right. This does NOT sound good!

You're welcome. Here's the tribute thread Xeph started for him:  www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/forum/12367.html

The U.S. Embassy in Copenhagen should be able to tell you how to contact the local police, and to provide translation assistance if necessary.  Their contact information is here:

denmark.usembassy.gov/contact-us.html

The town of Them is quite small - less than 2500 inhabitants - and appears to be a sub-municipality of the municipality of Silkeborg.  You will need to find out whether Them has its own police department or if police services are provided through the municipality.

Okay, there's something about this which is not making sense to me.

Zwinger vom Fiemereck is in Germany, and it seems logical to me that the dog would have been shipped directly from there to the States, rather than first going to Denmark. I am assuming your trainer's friend would have travelled from Denmark to Germany to see the dog before it was shipped.

Is it possible that the dog was still in Germany when this happened, and that's why you are not getting your phone calls returned?

Or does Fiemereck have a kennel in Denmark as well as Germany?

The answer is on the THIRD thread with the same subject line. The dog was in Germany and sent to Denmark, apparently in Denmark less than a week before the disappearance. Perhaps YR can explain to the OP how to respond ON the thread by writing a response in the "Post a Reply" space below the last response, rather than respond in an additional separate thread. I will attempt to cut and paste the answer, but not sure that I can on a smart phone. :-)

He was then transported to Denmark and was supposed to be flown in on Friday the 23. We called to find out how he was and were told he had pused past our trainers friend , chasing a cat , and was lost.  We have been in contact with Martin Steffen, and at this point he knows less than we do. Oh dear it says, "...pushed past our trainers friend, chasing a cat,..." How does that sound to everybody? Sounds like someone is passing the buck to me. Would be nice to know where this event is claimed to have taken place. And why was there no control of the dog by these professionals? Unfortunately, I'm inclined to agree with Molly. I hope the the Smith's are making progress getting help from the police.

Now that I read it all the same thought came to mind before i read what Molly and beetree wrote.Something just isn't right.the dog should have been under control(leash) especialy being in a different place and around people. If he was going to be completing his SchH2&3 then he has some training on him and should have been able to be called back even from a chase. I am hoping that nothing bad happened to the dog and that is just the story that Dan and Marilyn and getting.Hope that the embassy is able to help.I can imagine the frustration with having to deal with another country and being so far away. All the best to the both of them and a safe return of their dog.
