Many of you will remember the outrage over the stolen GSD mix Buddy's dragging death. Buddy was stolen from a truck in a small town in Western Colorado by Melissa Lockhart and later killed by dragging behind a vehicle for 3 miles on federal land by Lockhart's brother Steven Romero. A Facebook page and petition called Justice for Buddy's killer was created. It went viral.
There are over 100,000 signatures on the petition. A man named Gary Sherman printed them out and will take them to Grand Junction Colorado on Wednesday to deliver to prosecutors in the case. That's where the courthouse and prosecutors who have jurisdiction in this case are located. Lockhart and Romero remain in jail as they should.

Thank you for the update and for keeping this up there as a topic.

Yes, thank you, appreciate the update! I wasn't aware of the sister's role and am glad she is also being prosecuted. Hope justice IS really served!

How horrific!.......and why did she steal the dog??
by beetree on 24 January 2010 - 20:01
Great news, they are both in jail, let's hope it ends up being a long stay.

Looks like she got out on bond. Rats! Hopefully they will nail her good in court. Surely the courts can't ignore all of those signatures and will lay a heavy penalty on the both of them. No matter what they get, it won't be enough. Too bad.

Lockhart stole the dog because she could. She actually stole two unattended dogs from a pickup truck. A witness reported seeing her kids playing with the dogs while the dogs' owners were in a business. She simply decided to take the dogs and did so. The witness called the cops.
One dog was returned to the owners after the cops tracked her down thanks to the witness's description. Unfortunately, by this time she had already turned poor Buddy over to her POS brother apparently. Both the brother and sister have lied from the beginning. Some people are oxygen thieves and these two are that type.

So apparently she stole them because......she could........what a major POS.!
And she "destroyed/tortured " one because......she could......I can only pray, that there truly IS a here after.......
and they both will suffer for their pitiful, torturous crime....

So the crazy woman had kids? Great thing to teach your kids....see a dog in a truck and take it to play with it!!! Some people shouldn't reproduce!!! Why aren't there breed surveys for people????

I agree with you both, crheurta and LAVK-9. The maximum penalty her brother could get is three years in federal prison (Buddy's death was a federal crime since it happened on federal land), $100,000 fine and another year probation - but the federal prosecutor added an "aggravated" onto the charges, so I'm not sure how much more he could get for that. The POS sister may, I hope, do some jail time. That prosecution is local since the theft was local. Don't know if she lied to the feds but if she did and they charge her and prove it, that's more time for her. I hope they both do hard time.
