Bhaugh

by Bhaugh on 18 January 2010 - 16:01

Well I got the records from my rescue dogs old vet and the open sore on his back is covered with Neutrophils (Immune cells). This has been going on for almost 3 years with suggestions to do a biopsy and the owner not doing it. Ill be taking the dog in this week for labs/xrays and want to know what the chance is that he has cancer. Has anyone else had anything like this before?

Your vets can best determine whether the lesion on his back is a cancerous tumor. But yes, I have had an old rescued GSD female who had a small tumor on her back that she chewed on every time she had opportunity.

Could you see the tumor because whatever is happening is far enough under the skin that I cant feel or see it

Yes, the surface of the skin of this dog was essentially erupted with the tumor showing which she would try to chew. It was small because of that. Because she was so old, and a rescue, I considered euthanizing her, but she bloated one morning and that made the decision clear and she was put to sleep immediately. In your case, it depends on what the tumor type is. There are tumors, just as in humans, that are not cancerous. Are you certain, for example, that what was seen is just not a sebaceous gland cyst?
