Does anyone know anything about this? I have a young friend, who's 4 year old has this. Please keep her in your thoughts, the U of I has reccomended her to put her best friend to sleep. Her heart is broken! This is her last night with her best friend.

From the Merck Vet Manual:
http://www.vetmanual.org/mvm/index.jsp?cfile=htm/bc/23203.htm
Several other references I know of suggest that managing diet and aspiration pneumonias that result may allow the dog to live a somewhat normal and longer life. If your friend is not satisfied that nothing can be done, perhaps at least to set her mind at ease she would want to get a second opinion at some specialist or vet college.
If she has to put the dog down, I feel for her.

She took her to her own vet and they told her to take her to U of I which is the vet college, they were the ones to reccomend PTI. She was to upset to explain it to me but, from what I could understand, her esophagus is to thin? They are afraid that it will rupture? I think that is what she was telling me. She is only 20 years old, so it is very hard for her, hell, I am almost 50 and it is hard on me! Keep her in your thoughts, please. Thanks hodie!

greatestgsd,
that is so sad! She just posted on our board that she was put to sleep this morning!
I don't know what to say! I literally "watched" her and her sister Dori grow up on our forum a few years ago.
RIP, sweet girl!

She does have a young puppy from a breeding of mine and hers, I am glad that she has that little girl to help her through this tuff time!
