My 10 year old male had pancreatitis last week. He spent 2 days at the emergency vet, and was on fluids and meds. He came home on flagyl, baytril and something similar to pepsid, along with a chicken and rice diet. He did very well, no more vomitting or diarrhea, and after 5 days I started to mix in the regular food, TOTW pacific stream. Still did well. Finished the meds, and gave regular food. He vomitted. No food last night. I gave a handful of food this morning and he held it down. Gave about a cup of chicken and rice tonight and he vomitted. Still perky and active, but I know it won't last if he gets dehydrated. Anyone ever give human pepsid? I am at a loss. Theresa

Are you giving him Pedialyte?  I havent ever gave pepsid before.  Are you feeding him very small meals at a time?  My girl had this and just took awhile to get over it.  We had to take the food really slow.  Stay in contact with your vet for sure.

I wasn't giving pedialyte. He got over hydrated at the er. I did introduce small frequent meals and he did very well. It may be a coincidence, but it seems to have flared up when the meds were done. The er visit nearly drained me at $2k right after Christmas... :-( Theresa

They may not have given enough meds to get him over the hump.  Call the vet and tell him what is going on!

I know oh to well about being drained by vet visits!  I would continued small meals.  Watch for him to become dehydrated from the vomiting.  Talk to your normal vet about putting him on meds or maybe another issue.  Watch his fever and you can tell how they are feeling by their eyes most of the time, you know if you have to take them to the vet right away or not.    I think the small meals are very important.  My girl got very skinny fast!  My girl was about 2 yrs old when she got this.  It might take him a little longer because of his age.  Best of luck.  It is very upsetting when they are sick.

Cooked Lamb or Ground Beef And Rice, with 2 Tablespoons of Plain yogurt.

Worked for mine, per the vet.

Thanks DebiSue and Jessica. I am going to keep a close eye and yes you are right, you can tell with that look, when it is time. I am really hoping he can hold some food down. I worry so much about him. He is my one special old man. Theresa

The female in my sig recovered from pancreatitis The med they gave to calm her stomach was Ranitidine (Zantac). You can buy it over the counter here in Canada. I suggest you give it a try. The recommended dose for humans is 1 75 mg. tablet 2x a day. I'd try her with half a tablet once or twice a day.

Yeah, I k now what you mean about the cost. Five days  in the hosptial set me back $1,600!

Thank you so much SunSilver. I will see if I can get some of that. Theresa
