* "because it involves what will certainly be the next step in an ongoing court case" *

--- what was the charge ? And why not use that Attorney ?

There is 640 acres in a mile. 8 acres is a hop, skip and jump for a roaming unattended dog.

"ONGOING COURT CASE"???? So, these neighbors are ALREADY in litigation about something? WHAT? And WHAT would the dog have to do with it? It is, apparently, unknown whether the dog is alive or dead. If dead, wouldn't you think you need the body and a cause of death to determine what, if anything, that has to do with the litigation? I would think that the attorney already involved in the litigation would associate an animal law-savvy attorney him/herself, IF it really was germane in any manner to the "ongoing [sic] court case."

As stated, if the dog was trespassing, PARTICULARLY where live-stock is concerned in some states,, the property-owner has the right to shoot the dog.

I believe that there are a LOT of facts being left out/unsaid in this scenario. Referring something like this in this condition is a good way to become persona non grata to any attorney.

California is FULL of attorneys. There is something like 25% of the attorneys in the US right there in California. These megabuck folks should certainly not be reliant on people posting to email lists and internet boards to find one--especially as they undoubtedy HAVE at least one already involved in their "ongoing court case."

Something smells peculiar in Denmark.

---Permission to cross-post.---

Looking for an attorney in/near the Crescent City, California area, who has experience in dog/animal law...

I just got a phone call regarding "Alex", a German Shepherd Dog that I trained, who was sold to a gentleman in Crescent City, California (up near the Oregon border). It seemed like a "fairy tale ending" - placing Alex with his new owner. They were perfectly suited, and it seemed like a match made in heaven ever since - over 8 acres to romp and play, a super sweet owner who loved him, and had the perfect personality for Alex.

In what is now looking like a tragic ending for Alex and his new owner - Alex is "missing", and this happened after the neighbors heard a gunshot, and the sound of the next-door neighbor's ATV.

There's a long story here (which I just learned of) and I don't want to get into details, because it involves what will certainly be the next step in an ongoing court case. Suffice to say Alex's new owner is sure that Alex is dead, and buried nearby, and there's one prime suspect who has a long, documented history. I will add this, from personal knowledge, Alex isn't the type of GSD to "go missing" of his own volition.

Alex's new owner is not getting any support from local law enforcement authorities in terms of mounting any kind of investigation, or going after evidence. Does anyone know of a good California attorney who knows about animal/property law, and has been an advocate for dog owners? This is somewhat of a departure from what we usually discuss on Pet-Law Lists, so I don't even know if I'm framing the question right. I don't want to say "money is no object", but this is a man who can afford to pay an attorney to get to work NOW.

Please feel free to respond off-list. I loved Alex a lot - I don't know how this will turn out, but I want justice to be done.

Thanks.

---  This Tina Perriguey, isnt she an advocate for (SaveUSAFarmers) and listed on Twitter ? I also did a search of your cross post and found nothing but this PDB posting.

If this is a Tina Perriguey promoted cross-post .. I would like to know about it. If she's a true pro farm, farmers property and livestock advocate ... this cross post sounds hypocritical.

Tina Perriguey was unavailable to take calls this morning. You have a direct link to the original post above ? Thanks.

Youll need the body-if you find the body and theres a bullet in it you can have the bullet matched to the neighbors gun...that is if you can get a search warrent of the neighbors house and the gun can be seized...was the "crime scene" never discovered?  A pool of blood, ATV tracks?  Photos of such a scene would have helped.  Good luck.  What a horrible situation.

* "needed referrals not armchair quarterbacks" *

-- that's rich. Maybe with all the moneys you can pay off the Judge instead of finding a special interest Attorney.

If this dog was attended to and on the owners property .. there should be an eye witness to this story. Case closed.

I missed all the OP's responses before they were deleted.   Apparently, a " reality check " was just too much for the OP.
