I have female gsd with "all excellent" head, ear carriage, colour/pigmentation, extra-excellent coat and a good tail, BUT "cow hocked/shaky" back leg, appearing slightly "K" when she moves. Can she be breed, to a firm/strong-boned legged dog to correct her fault or do i forget about breeding her? Would it have any adverse effect on her offsprings?. . . just confuse, considering her good/excellent qualities. S.O.S.

a dog which might have been raised in a crate, could develop cow hocks due to lack of excerzise.

A dog CAN inherit this from either parent.

A dog can pass on the cow hocks IF she or he inherited this from the parents, grandparents etc.
I have a female with cow hocks, in her first litter she passed it on to her offspring, ALL of them .

In her 2nd litter with a different male, NONE of the pups had cowhocks.

The first litter was NOT a close line breeding

The 2nd litter WAS a 3,3 line breeding

thus pedigrees have not to do with it.

Its simply genetics of the individual dog(s)

AineeNR1, thanks too. I'm a bit lost as to you explanation on "line-breeding". If a bitch with an "inherited fault" is line-bred, sometimes the "faults" appear dominant. So i think if you 3,3 line-breed you hitch, i believe more of her inherited faults could appear more on her pups. Sorry, i may not be correct, put me through on the 3,3 linebreeding.

AineeNR1, thanks too. I'm a bit lost as to you explanation on "close line-breeding". If a bitch with an "inherited fault" is line-bred(close), sometimes the "faults" appear dominant. So i think if you 3,3 close line-bred your hitch, i believe more of her inherited faults could appear more on her pups. Sorry, i may not be correct, put me through on the 3,3 close linebreeding.
