has any body use IVOMEC(ivermectin) to d-worm ur dogs
I use it all the time for heartworm prevention. I Still give it to my boyfriends' dog once a month as well. I buy 1% Ivomec, and admister it at a dosage of 1cc ( or 1ml) per 100 pounds. You only need a small amount. Many places will want you to mix it with Propylene Glycol, which I think is just a waist of time. I would draw up the amount that I needed in a 1cc syringe and squirt the dose in the Shepherd's mouth once a month. Now, there are some Whites that are sensitive to Ivermectin. On dogs I was not sure on, I would first give them about 1/4 of the dose, watch for neurological problems for a few days, and if they did well, I would give them the rest of the dose about 3 days later. I also wormed my pups with Ivermectin once before they left. I did this about 7 to 8 weeks of age. This was on top of using pyrantel pamoate for worming the pups.
what about a 4 monts pupp less then 1 cc?
some body say also work on external parasites
so is administer by mouth not subcutaneously?
Always administer it by mouth. A pup at 4 months can go on monthly heartworm treatment. Weigh the puppy, it would be a lot less than 1cc. The dose is 1cc per 100 pounds . I have a scale, a baby scale, that I put a large flat pan on the top of, and secured it to the scale. I can weigh puppies on it, up to 30 pounds. Since the puppy has never been on it, I would test does the pup first. Ivermectin can also be used for Mange, the dosage is different for that and it has to be given daily for the treatment of Mange.
Not only does it work for worms and mange but you can put it in their ears to kill ear mites or anyother parasites in their ears
Gilgamor- I would NOT recommend self calculating the correct dosage of Ivermectin. First off, there are different strengths, and it is calculated for livestock. Heartworm medications are too easily available to be using liquid Ivermectin. Yes, it can be given by mouth, but I would urge you to speak to your vet first if you insist on doing it. If too high of a dose is given it can not only cause neurological issues, but blindness, and death as well. There are ready made wormers available depending on what worms you are treating. Strongid is available in a liquid, but again I would urge you to get a vets recommendation for dosage. Nemex is a general wormer, while Panacur C will treat all, plus whipworms and is given overa course of 3 days in the dogs food, and is easily purchased as it is dosed by the dogs weight. Interceptor is a very good product that treats heartworm as well as internal parasites. Ivermectin can be given by mouth for mange, but is generally given by subctaneous injection over a perid of days. Again, BEFORE you do anything speak with your vet.
"Now, there are some Whites that are sensitive to Ivermectin."- Herding breeds especially seen in Collies can be sensitive to Ivermectin, not just seen in "white" GSD's.
Bjarnehaus- " A pup at 4 months can go on monthly heartworm treatment"
"Weigh the puppy, it would be a lot less than 1cc. The dose is 1cc per 100 pounds"
** I am curious as to what dosing calculation you are using to come up with dosages???? Most drugs are dosed at XYZ millegrams per kilogram. Which means you must convert the kgs. into pounds first. I am also curious as to what size syringe you are using?, a standard 3cc. would be entirely TOO large.
Dosage is .06mg/kg orally once every 4-6 weeks for heartworm prevention. It is the same ingredient as Heartgard. Dosages vary for other treatments such as mange.
If you do not feel comfortable with the math, ask your vet.
And do NOT get the Ivomec Plus!!

Its 1 tenth of a cc per 10 lbs, and is usually not giving to pups under 6 months of age.
Csfr is correct with his 1/10 of a cc per 10 lb for treatment of a pup , expecially for scabies ,or for the initial Heartmworm at 4 mos old...
Do not give Ivemec Plus....very dangerous extra in it not for dogs..
and you give by mouth.... I use a piece of meat to chow down on for the bitter taste, so they don't hate it so bad.
I use 1/4 cc per 40 lbs...of the 1%Ivemec given by mouth... I do not give the per 20 lb instead do the 40lb calculation because I was warned by two vets of the strength of the liquid and the dosage is plenty to be in the blood for many months and to do the effected killing of the heartworm I have never ever had heartworms in any dog . I have used Ivermec for 16yrs.but I do not use the same calculation you posted..I choose the lesser dosage..My personal and my vets decisions..
I do not give the Ivemec in December and January as plenty in body to carry them into the February month in Texas where I live...this is my own program recommended and evalutated by my vets...
Panacur Goat wormer is what I use by safeguard and on the first two wormings of pups I use Pyrantel Pamoate..
I use Ivemec on Mange or mites if tests show that to be the problem.
I do not use Ivemec on any other dog period..but my gsd..My cockers are given Interceptor for heartworm prevention..
