Hi all. I'm new here but I've had german shepherds and a dutch shepherd in the past. i want to get another german shepherd from working lines instead of showlines.
I have been looking at various workingline puppies. i am hoping for some advice on selectin a pup, and on what is a reasonable price. I'm looking for a workingline dog.
I was looking at a pup from a breeder who is asking $1200 per puppy. The mother and father have a good preliminary hip score but do not have the final scores. the mother has a herding certificate, and the father doesn't have any titles though. I am a bit concerned because the breeder hasn't sent in the paperwork to get official OFA ratings.

If the breeder has not sent in for the final scores, are they going to follow through on other things with the pups? Have they taken the x-rays and the hips don't pass now? These are things to ask the breeder and think about. I think that is a reasonable price for a puppy from working lines if the parents are health certified and titled.

So hips can change from an initial passing score to a failing one as the dog matures?
I'm very worried about dysplasia because i had a gsd with a very bad case of it, and we gave him artificial hips rather than have him put down. It was very expensive and even with his robo-hips there were some things he couldn't do anymore.
I'm looking for a dog that I can possibly compete with. I'm not looking for something for breeding. At least not yet. i can pm the pedigrees of the parents but i don't want to post them here because I've been lurking here and i've seen some posts get removed when breeders or their dogs are mentioned by name, so i don't want to do it. But I can PM you the dogs and the pedigree links.
The other thing that concerns me is the father's name is spelled one way on the breeders site, and another way on the database. Is that a big deal or am i being overly picky?

PM me the pedigrees if you don't mind.
BTW if this is your first working dog, than trust me it wont be to compete but a training dog ;) that you will learn on what not to do lol ;)

I would not under any circumstances consider a puppy whose parents were not BOTH OFA cert and/or "a" stamped (and I do NOT mean zuch), as well as elbows. If the breeder had not done such basic health clearances before breeding, I would pass on getting any puppy from that breeder, no matter what magical abilities the puppy is supposed to have.

Please pm the pedigree.
