From a news source in Park County, CO

More than 100 dogs were found dead or dying at a sled dog facilitiy Tuesday afternoon south of Hartsel in Park County. The call came in as an anomymoyus tip. When Sheriff's Deputies arrived with a search warrant they found eight dogs dead and more than 100 in "extremely poor" condition.

According to the Park County Sheriff's Office, Dr. Kate Anderson with the Colorado Department of Agriculture's Bureau of Animal Protection scored the animals on the Hennekee Body Score System and determined several of the animals scored 1 or less on a scale of 1 to 9. Animal Control Officers and volunteers removed 30 dogs that were rated in the poorest condition and transported the animals to facilities in Colorado Springs, Buena Vista, Salida and Park County.

On Thursday, Park County Sheriff's Office Animal Control Officers removed the remaining 70 animals and will be placing them in approved facilities throughout the state. Rescue operations are ongoing at this time.

Sam and Diane Walker who reside in Florissant, CO, and whom operated the sled dog facility, could be facing multiple counts of animal cruelty and neglect. Anyone wishing to help can contact the Park County Animal Rescue in Fairplay.

Fairplay, huh? Doesn't seem fair at all. So sad. I hope they are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, but usually that doesn't end up happening.

Well, you know that you cannot believe anything you read on the Internet  (that's what I was told by an "expert.")

Believe it or not, it was copied and pasted from one of the "stellar" news sources in the area. I posted the link as well, but it does not show, so here it is again below. It is on every news channel and all news internet sites in Colorado.

Another link. Be sure to look at the slideshow of photos taken of some of the dogs that were removed.

...*wipes tears*....

Yes, Rooka, it is pathetic and very sad and many of us will hope for justice for these dogs. Thank God for the person who made the report. I talked to a friend this morning who is involved and she said that a dog died yesterday, despite heroic efforts to save it. Many others are near death and when a dog is so emaciated, it is a dicey proposition to save them. Believe it or not, one cannot simply give them lots of food as it will kill them. It has to be slow and methodical care and it will take months for some of these dogs to recover. Others likely will not.

Hodie,

I cannot read these stories any longer.  Part of my New Year's resolution is going to be to never read any of them.    They upset me too much, and the vast majority of the time, there is not a damn thing that I can do about the situation.  So, if you come across things like this after January 1, 2010  at 00:01 am, just pm or email me to tell me what I can do to help and I will do it.  But, I can't take this anymore.    My hat is off to those of you doing rescue-- THANK YOU so much for your efforts.  I could never do it.
