Good post Crys, reminds me...the older lady who lost the grip on her leash because the dog pulls so damn hard, that dog charged strait at us and slammed into my dog and bit him on the shoulder or neck area. I told my dog to freez up and he just stood there, didn't even flinch. If he had reacted, it may have spurred a fight, I just don't know. My dog has never been in a fight, we do long downs, and all kinds off OB off leash at training with 10-15 other dogs walking in circles around him, recalling to their handlers and all of that with no issues.

When my neighbors are out with their dogs in the yard, we just walk into the street to pass (on account of their dogs, not mine) stupid little Dachunds are evil and really belive they have a chance against a dog 10x's their size. We pass cats in peoples yards and crossing the street on the way home from the park, all it takes is a NO or uh uh from me and they know, it ain't happening. Shoot dumb cats have even come to the park to crap while the dogs are there playing ball, pretty bold cats, but that's why the dogs are trained the way they are.

I have control on my end, I just can't predict or stop what happens with a loose cannon/dog. When a dog is persistant in coming closer or following us, there is nothing left to do but go home, whether my dogs are leashed or not. With no leash on the other dog, there is no way to prevent or break up a fight safely. End of story.
