Sorry, I refuse to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed person!
The correct term is 'transit time', not transient! If you used the term they use in the first article you quoted, your vet would laugh at you.

I just read a few repliesto the original question.
If my dog is trying to chew something:
Take him for a long walkin the park or woods
If he really has a pent up energy, throw a stick in the river or a lake, so he can swim in it and fetch it. For an hour or so.
If he has schutzhnd training, go there 2 or 3 times a week.
Throw a ball for him to retrieve for an hour.
Practice obedience, recalls, heeling, jumping etc... once in the afternoon or so.
Sometimes give him a arge, raw cow knuckle bone to chew on.
Then, after the exercises, give him food and water and crate him.
Quiet as a mouse.
Repeat twice a day every day.
All that goes for normal, high energy dogs that chew out of boredom or "pent up energy". Granted, there are some that just like to chew, because it's there. All the above should apply to them as well.
He/she will settle down and be more manageable once they mature, 3 to 4 years of age.

BRAVO ADI!!!!!
POIGNANTLY STATED!!! YOU NAILED IT!!!
I HAVE A 7 MONTH OLD GSD PUP, I HAVE A BUM LEG, ITS VERY VERY HARD FOR ME TO WALK, MY DOG ABSOLUTELY NEEDS TO BE STIMULATED AS YOU SO WELL NOTED ABOVE. I SUCK IT UP, GRAB MY CANE, TAKE MY PAIN PILLS AND EXERCISE, TRAIN (SCH), PLAY FETCH, PLAY "I'M GONNA GET YOU" 3x A DAY, AND GO FOR 1/2 MILE MORNING WALKS.
WHEN WE GOT OUR PUPPY, I HAD NO IDEA HOW MUCH ENERGY THIS DOG HAD, I AM A RESPONSIBLE OWNER, AND IT IS MY JOB TO SEE TO IT MY DOG GETS WHAT HE NEEDS, AND I COULD LET HIM CHEW ON RAW HIDES ALL DAY, AND MY WORLD WOULD BE SUCH AN EASIER PLACE. I WOULD NOT HAVE AS MUCH PAIN, BUT I MADE A COMMITMENT TO THIS DOG, AND I WILL BE DAMNED IF I AM NOT GOING TO KEEP IT.......HE ABSOLUTELY NEEDS TO BE STIMULATED WITH EXERCISE AND ALL THAT GOOD STUFF. SO I DO WHAT IS RIGHT BY HIM. I DON'T HAVE TO TAKE HIM TO SCH TRAINING, BUT I DO BECAUSE HIS PEDIGREE IS ALL SCH TITLES, ITS IN HIS BLOOD AND IT WOULD BE (IN MY OPINION ONLY) UNJUST TO NOT STIMULATE HIM WITH THIS TRAINING....AND HE'S DOING VERY WELL WITH IT....TRUST ME I'M NOT DOING THIS FOR MYSELF -LIKE I SAID MY WORLD WOULD BE FILLED WITH A BOAT LOAD OF LESS PAIN IF I DID NOT GO TO 6 HOURS OF DOG TRAINING. ITS ALOT OF STANDING AROUND IN COLD WEATHER . IN FACT I CAN BARELY WALK ON MONDAYS, BUT I WAKE UP AND TAKE HIM FOR HIS WALK, AS FEEBLE AND SLOW AS IT IS, WE DO IT & I WOULDN'T TRADE IT FOR THE WORLD. THERE IS NO BETTER FRIEND OR COMPANION THAN A DOG!!!
ELLE
PS: SORRY FOR ALL CAPS I'M NOT SHOUTING JUST DONT HAVE MY READERS ON AND ITS EASIER TO SEE WHAT I AM TYPING-----BAD LEG/BAD EYES
