So what your saying is then that the Dog was stabbed with a Pen Knife, I did not read that in the report, And Yes, i was a Cub and a Boy Scout
However not at any time have you condoned the fact that these Lads were carrying a Knife or Knives of any sort so as i said you believe that to be okay and normal,
But had it been say your Lad that had been Stabbed would you still think it right for the one who did it to be carrying a Knife i guess you would have to seeing you believe it to be okay and a normal thing
And Yes, i owned a pen knife when i was in the Scouts it hung on a clip on the belt but it was on lt worn for the Scout Meetings only, for wood craft etc not for general carrying around during the day why would i need to
And i do wonder if this was in fact a Pen Knife which was used to stab the Dog with
However my last to you as you seem to think it right for as you say Children to carry weapons around with them i guess it is a free for all society after all

If the dog did just attack the boys for no reason, then killing it would be the logical course of action, to defend oneself against the attack.
On the subject of carrying knives...Steve, I like and respect you. I've never met you, but from your posts on this board, I have come to like you very much. But I do not agree on this. I bought my first pocket knife for twenty five cents when I was eight years old. I have carried a pocket knife for the last nineteen years. I have never been arrested, never threatened anyone, human, dog, or anything else, with that. I use it for lots of things, cutting tape on boxes, opening mail, cutting rope and plastic fencing in my garden, tons of things around the yard and garden.. I have handled guns, and intend to take Hunter Safety classes this year so I can hunt next year. The fact that I carry a knife most all the time has not made me a criminal. I have no desire to gut a person or a dog simply because I have the "power" to do so. I have no problem with people carrying guns or knives in my society...The more law-abiding citizens that do, the less likely that criminals will feel safe enough to attack them.
Sadly, a kid that will stab a dog to death just to kill it would also have killed the dog with a pipe, a baseball bat, or even a car, if the situation presents itself. Making sure no one carries a pocket knife will not stop the ability to harm another if the desire to do so is there, which is something that folks don't seem to understand. If the tendency toward law-breaking is there, the person will find a way to do so. *edit* Creating more laws against guns or knives will ensure only one thing: That criminals are the only ones with them. If the tendency is there, they will get their weapons one way or another.
On the other hand, the family unit as we knew it sixty or eighty years ago, is rarely found today. Too many parents don't do their jobs, don't know what their kids are doing. Kids are out doing drugs, breaking the law, vandalizing property, all sorts of mischief, simply because their parents are too busy working, watching TV, or doing whatever else, rather than doing what is the most important job in the whole world, raising their children.
The more "civilized" we get, the more out of control things are getting. There are those who want to disarm the public, saying that the police are the only ones who need to be able to defend themselves, because if someone attacks you, you can just call 911. But the average response time is five to fifteen minutes, and a lot of things can happen before help arrives. And the perpetrators of the crime are usually gone by then. I mind my own business, but if someone attacks me, you can bet it is he or she who will need the help. I don't look for trouble, but I sure as heck will deal with it if it finds me.
Have a nice day, folks.
