10 weeks because the puppy has had 2 sets of puppy vaccinations and a week for them to work. Lots of stress and germs out there, puppies need as much defense against them as possible, especially when in transit.
Its not as easy as just stuffing a puppy in a crate and taking it to the airport. There's lots of paperwork, taxes, health certificates, cost of an appropriate crate. It has to be completed perfectly, there can be much difficulty getting the animal through customs once it reaches its destination. The choice of flights also had to be correct. If a puppy arrives to late in the evening US customs is closed the puppy is then taken to quarantine facility for the overnight - very expensive.
Many kennels pay a transport company to book the flight, pick the puppy up, drive it to the airport, fill out all required paperwork, make sure they are at the airport at the correct time.
Much of this may have to do with the value of the currencies we are dealing with, as the value of the dollar goes down the price in American dollars goes up.......
all of the airlines I've dealt with have expect this "handling charge". it may have to do with the fact that everyone has to stop what they're doing to get the creates or they have to disinfect the area where the crate has been, or maybe they just don't like hearing puppies and dog bark, or they don't like the smell....... it seems like a forced gratuity.
A way to reduce shipping costs is to find someone else who wants a puppy and ship them together, up to 3 puppies of the same size can be shipped on one crate. the cost to ship the crate is a little more, but dividing the cost makes it much more affordible.

Looks to me like after eight years of dramatic declines inder Bush, the dollar started to recover against the euro during Obama's first year, no small feat given the mess that was left behind.

The reason the dollar is going a little better has more to do with the EU nations being just a irrisponsible as the US, if not more more so.

the reason our currency has improved is becasue the banks have horded the tarp money. this has caused some stability. as the money finally hits the streets, the value of our currency will decrease and inflation will increase.
not spin, ecomomics........
