Do the goats fall over when they do that?

Many years ago, there was a horse named Clever Hans, who seemed to be able to do mathematical problems, and stomp out people's ages with his hoof.

When the trainer was put behind a blind, the horse could no longer solve the problems. He was reading his handler's body language, even though the handler wasn't aware of it. He would relax his body when the horse reached the correct sum, and that was the horse's cue to stop pawing with his hoof.

Prager, Timber was a Shiloh. I can well believe he had ESP. Shilohs are incredibly smart!

My female GSD loves to cuddle, but she knows she has to ask for permission first. She will come and stare at me, and all I have to do is give a very slight nod of my head, or even smile at her, and she knows it's okay to put the front part of her body in my lap for some cuddling.

Hey, we single gals have to take what we can get...

I truly believe they know alot more than we think they do. When our Great Dane saved me from being snatched out of my front yard. He knew while he was in the house there was trouble, I was not sure, just that little voice in my tummy telling me this is not good, run, but he was an adult so I was mentally fighting with myself. The dog was going wild in the house and fully body slamming the door with full on aggressive barks. This was not the dog's  personality, more along the line of Marmaduke. Mom let him out, thinking something has really got him upset, the guy took off. When I explained to Mom what was going on she had tears in her eyes, he got a steak dinner, and on the news he had snatched someones elses little girl. I think they do read body language and also scent, however, I also think there maybe more to it. Whatever it is I have finally learned to listen, even if I am questioning it, very simple to just change the situation and who cares if I can not fully understand the reasoning behind the warning. I am now of the mind "JUST DO IT".
I think this is a hard thing to teach a person, to listen to your dog. I also think the stronger the bond with your dog the more you communicate with each other, be it physical or mental.

Here is why I believe in telepathy. It has nothing to do with dogs but just with me. When I was a teenager in high school we went every summer for mandatory pick up of hops. It was a lot of fun an very little money. There was a guy his name of Padovec and he was slightly "different".  We were onece talking about telepathy. He (Padovec) said I can prove it to you but you will have to try not to fight it. And he did. He held 3 cards between us looking into my eyes and saying find ....what ever card, let say queen of hearts and he would be repeating it over and over again. Than he said select Queen of hearts and that was a signal to go ahead and pick the card which I at that point thought was that card. And I was right. Well at first  I have thought that he has had 3 same cards but no, they were different . And now comes the kick. We started to add cards and have done it 13 times and last time I picked it up out of 12 cards. Then I was completaly exhausted and made firs mistake. That is when we quit. There were at least 20 witnesses all around us and there was no obvious trick to it. He made me believer. No I have not seen UFO yet but this has really happened. Honest  truth! So if you live with your dog 24 /7 why it is not possible to have such connection with it. We do not know everything around us.  Earth was flat; sure thing , and malaria was spread by humidity from mud.
I wonder where is Padovec now?

That's very interesting, Hans!

I don't know about ESP, but I have been re-reading Chuck Eisenman's Stop! SIt! and Think!, and he mentions how he was having trouble teaching one of the Hobo dogs to play dead. He had to repeat the exercise over and over. By the time he was done, he just had to hold his body a certain way, look at the dog and the dog would fall over!

Dogs are incredibly good at picking up on our body language. That's why a dog will sometimes bite someone you don't like. It picks up on how uncomfortable you are around that person. Could be a combination of body language and the odour your body gives off due to fear or anger.

OK, even my alalytical brain can't make sense of everything I experience.  For example, I can often hear a song in my head playing, and when the radio is turned on, it's at the exact same place in the song that my head was playing.  This happens especially often when I just wake from sleeping.  Either that, or some kind of transmitter/receiver implant, as I'm the subject of some high-tech mind control experiment via satellite control.  Supersticion and paranoia are probably the same side of two different coins.  If I can't yet rationalize it, then I'll just believe it can eventually somehow be rationalized and it's just temporarily beyond the scope of common understanding.

Sunsilver, this is the exact theory the trainer used.
"It picks up on how uncomfortable you are around that person. Could be a combination of body language and the odour your body gives off due to fear or anger"
apparently we give off pharamones for each command we give to our dogs, and they are all different.

Hans, I have seen a long dead bitch of mine do something very uncanny. She knew there was a threat, but there is no way possible that she could have known this. She was resting on a bench seat in the car, next to me, and I was at a stoplight. A really evil looking man pulled up next to me and stared hard at me. This was on the passenger side, where the bitch was resting, her head down. The windows were rolled up and I didn't say a thing. She was not looking at me. But, somehow, she sensed the presence and intentions of this man, and slowly rose up on her front legs, as if on hydraulics. First, the ear tips came up over the door sill, then the eyes and nose, and she stared directly at him. It made him very nervous and he looked away then drove through the intersection. This all happened late at night and there was no one else around. I admit that I was amazed. Obviously, she did sense something.. but, what?
This was one of the best dogs I ever had the pleasure to own.

I think people who are truly living with their dogs get  more satisfaction form observing these ESP and other events. I get always sad when I see SchH dogs to be locked  in the kennel during non training time, which is just about all the time except short periods of time during training. What a waste! Remember dogs are here to have a job and work and be with us.
Please live with your dogs. Allow them in your life, in your house, in your car, in your vacations, in your games,  in your hikes, in your visit to the coffee shop......

Hans....how many dogs have you been able to do this with?

Also, with the dog that did it before how would you think about the commands? Would you visualize the dog doing the command or would you just think about the word? Would you try and "send" the command out in your mind to the dog? How long would it take for the dog to get what you were thinking? I know this is getting a little weird but Im curious! LOL
