VKGSDs

by VKGSDs on 19 February 2012 - 01:02

This is my working line boy, Pan.  He's almost 18 months old.  I love this dog, he's SO much fun to train!!  We're doing his BH, possibly AD, and another show rating in April.  His obedience and protection are coming along great.  Tracking is not quite as far but that is my fault, as I don't really like tracking and it's hard to train consistently with winter conditions.  Also he used to get really distracted because I live in the city and often have to track on shared sports fields with kids and BALLS flying around, so I waited until he matured a bit to get more into tracking.  Feel free to offer suggestions/critiques!

Beginning heelwork (older videos but what you see is how he heels, fine with me!) Right now we're working on better left turns and the about turn (he'll do the one where he goes around my back)

First flat retrieves - recorded the first time we did flat retrieves after training to hold the dumbbell!  They're a bit sloppy, there was sheer ice under that snow.

Right after we made the above breakthrough with the retrieve I got sick and couldn't do anything for a week, so one week later we tried the flat retrieves again.  Since then we've worked on the screaming when the command is given (this dog gets overloaded quite quickly on his own, many times I have to make myself seem very boring during training) and sitting in heel *until* the "bring" command is given.

Two vids of him starting the hold and bark

First track since October (bait every 3-5 steps). I've trained and proofed articles off the track and will begin introducing them the next time we track.

I'm also doing flyball with both my male GSDs and this young boy is AMAzing!  We started in October and he's already running against some of the fastest dogs at our club.  The instructor thinks he will challenge the fastest GSD in the league and possibly break 4 seconds with more training.

Your boy, Pan, has lots of enthusiasm and is a willing partner.  I can see that you have lots of fun with him.  It looks like Pan will have a very diverse career.  I especially enjoyed the flyball - boy is he fast!

Keep up the good work.

He is looking great! I just love your pups but I have to say, I enjoy watching Pan mature! :)
