Very sad news. Another titan of the German Shepherd Dog World has passed away after a long illness. Literally hundreds of outstanding dogs came from his breeding efforts. Just to name a few
Xara von Bad Boll, Pischa von Bad Boll, Palme von Bad Boll, Chipsi von Bad Boll, Atlas von Bad Boll, Neptune von Bad Boll, Rieker von Bad Boll, Ober von Bad Boll.
Always ready to help, he was a friend to many, including me and was always prepared to share incomparable knowledge of GSD bloodlines and breeding techniques and strategies. Like all of us, he had is foibles, but in the rough and tumble world of showing dogs, he was a kind man, fair and a good friend. RIP Hans Peter

It used to be that when a great man in the GSD world, for example Karl Fuller, passed away, it was noted and remarked upon on this website...I find it sad that when one of the great pioneering trainers or our time like Gottfried Dildei and one of the most important GSD breeders of a generation like Hans-Peter Rieker die, next to no one notices or pays any tribute.

How things have changed, perhaps those who were really interested in training, breeding and showing have left this website for good...or perhaps they too have gone to the great schutzhund fields and conformation shows in the sky...

Don't think HP has any family to take up his breeding. He got divorced from Renate and she never really bred dogs, just kept house for him. Never heard him talk about any children. His Freundin also was not a breeder. He has/had a brother in Sao Paulo Brazil and he was not involved. HP over the years had many sub breeders working with him such as Oscar Durr, Rainer Mast, Luciano Musalino and crveni Mayestoso. When he got sick a few years back, I think he more or less stopped breeding and took dogs he thought were promising from these breeders. So, I do not think we are going to see any more Bad Boll dogs.

A lot of people are private and families that are mourning tend to want to be left alone, rather than being bombarded with messges and phone calls.

For sure. Certainly I was not suggesting anyone contact the Rieker family in any way shape or form. But a few kind words here can hardly constitute any kind of invasion of privacy.

I posted the information of his passing, which is on Facebook, here so that those of us who knew HP might commiserate. No other reason
