I have been looking up some AKC registration numbers for Alaskan Mal's and have found that sometimes there is already a 4 digit number there, sometimes the same number as other dogs have. Does anyone know what these numbers represent. For example look at Inuit's Moon Unit and his sire and dam.

The number 8397 was already there and I added the AKC WE226050. So what does the 8397 represent?
