Hello !
What can we ( breeders of white swiss shepherds in FCI ) do to open Europen borders for white sheherds from USA , Australia and other countries ?! What can we do to change stupid regulations of FCI against American dogs ?!!!!!! Maybe we can make and sign some petition . Have you got any idea ????

by hertoginhelena on 07 February 2010 - 21:02

Totally agree, I just don't really know what to do. A petition won't do the trick I think, but we have to show the FCI somehow how IMPORTANT those dogs are to our breed! I mean come one, we MUST add some new blood to these european bloodlines.

Sins the 5th of november 2008 the FCI has a agreement with the AKC,KC and CKC about the registrations of dogs from the FCI and those 3 kennelclubs.

Perhaps there is a new start for the white sheperd dog.

For explaning the agreements see  http://www.fci.be/  under  ACCORDS DE COOPERATION (on the rightside)

Hi White Diva

I reply to your last post referring to the FCI agreement (with the UK KC only I make comment to as I do not know about the the other kennel clubs) .

The letter of understanding with the British KC (one of which you appear to be referring to) states in section no.1

"The KC where it recognises the breed in question, will recognise the pedigree of any FCI registry that meets KC requirements and that wishes to have such recognition."

In this case the KC does not recognise the White Swiss Shepherd. Currently any FCI registered White Swiss imported into the UK has the option of being re registered as a German Shepherd Dog or to apply for recognition of a new breed via the new breed application form (link below). They suggested that to consider the WSSD as a new breed they would want to see at least 20 of the breed in the UK with differing bloodlines. Not easy to do with the limited gene pool available and when any already imported WSS's appear to be being re registered as GSD's to expand the White GSD gene pool within the UK.

I know this is probably a controversial subject - but this is how things appear to me, to be standing at the current time.

To succeed in UK recognition we will have to have the information required on this form and we do need to find more people who have imported WSS lines into the UK.

Hi Sue,

I know it will take a long way and a lotts of work to get a "new"breed in to the UK but a lott of breeders in the UK do not know about this possiblety ( i know that dogs from the Netherlands,Germay and Spain  went to the UK) and registrated there import WSS as WGS/GSD in the UK.

So you will never get 20 dogs if breeders do not know about it.

If breeders know there is a start for reconizing the WSS breed in the UK than the first staps are made.

Hi

You are correct in saying we need more people to know about the possiblity of the WSS being a potentially new breed in the UK and we have posted on some forums including this one and in the UK.  Also a well known columnist wrote an article in Our Dogs Newspaper on our behalf in trying to help us try to find current owners and we have only found a couple of dogs this way.

The problem living in the UK is that you cannot import a puppy from a young age due to UK Pet Passport regulations.  A pup will have to be at least 10 months old before it can enter under the scheme.  (earliest e.g. 12 weeks old Rabies Vaccine, 30 days later blood test, and finally 6 months wait from the day blood was taken at 4 months then, which makes a total of 10 months).  Breeders who would have paid already for WSSD to be brought into the UK would have paid dearly for those dogs to be kept until 10 months of age, so they would have probably been purchased for a GSD breeding program I would have thought and not kept as a WSS just as a pet.

We think we have seen some interest in a couple of current white GSD breeders though already, so time will tell.  Also there have been people actively looking in the UK for WSS puppies.

This recognition (if ever) will take a lot of time and patience as mine and my friends dogs (who I am looking after until they are old enough to travel to the UK) are still only young. At this moment in time I am just having fun spending a lot of time training, doing some agility and showing here in Spain.

P.S. White Diva - would be helpful to know the names of any WSS importers you know of  living in the UK.  As I have been told the KC do not have a list of any.

Thank you

Sue

Thanks White Diva

I know of this dog from Heart of Lothian kennel.

I am currently at my home in Spain but also have a home in the UK.  I am showing mine and intend to show my friend's youngsters in Spain while they are here.  Most of them are too young to go to the UK as yet.

Have PM'd details

Sue
