Doveton White Swiss Shepherds

by Doveton White Swiss Shepherds on 23 October 2009 - 11:10

Ch African Ice Its Full O'Styl Of Doveton

I am looking into immigrating from South Africa to Australia and taking my White Swiss Shepherds with me as to continue with my scheduled breeding programme, can anyone advise me as to the quaratine period when they get there ? My dogs are Kusa registered (Kennel Union of Southern Africa) who are a full federated member of the Federation Cynologique Internationale (FCI). Is there a kennel union in Australia that is a full federated member of the FCI ? Has anyone any idea as to what cost will be incurred in taking my dogs to Australia ?

Hello,
The best club to join up to with your white swiss Shepherds is the White Swiss Shepherd Dog Club Of Australia, they are 'breed body' of the swiss shepherd in australia.
the best person to contact is probly Lee, her details are below, she can advise you further:

Hi Doveton White Swiss Shepherds!

You have gorgeous dogs!  Very exciting that you are coming to Australia!  There are only a few "real" White Swiss Shepherds in this country so far, but there are several breeders planning to bring in official White Swiss Shepherds that can be properly registered, bred from and show in conformation.

Unfortunately the information Alex gave you above is incorrect.

The White Swiss Shepherd Dog Club of Australia (WSSDCA) is not affliated in any way to the Australian National Kennel Council (ANKC).  The locally-bred whites are not recognised as White Swiss Shepherds by our Kennel Club. They ANKC have strict rules about breeding, pedigrees and registration.  The WSSDCA accepts any dog (no proof of purebred - you can get your dog from a pound and breed it - even if it has no pedigree!).  The WSSDCA also accepts dogs with serious health problems... not good!

So I would advise you to go with the official kennel club to register your imports.

The ANKC will register you dogs and they will be able to be shown officially - Australia wide!

http://www.ankc.org.au

They have state bodies in each state of Australia, so depending on which state you are moving, you would join the state body you live in.

Dogs officially registered with the ANKC are not allowed to be bred to the Australian-bred whites, which are classified by the ANKC as German Shepherd Dogs (white). This would be considered cross-breeding and pups are not registered.

For up to date information on the breed in Australia, please go the Alliance site and investigate the differences between the clubs representing the whites here:

http://www.wgsdcv.org.au/

(Click on the important information at the bottom).

With quarrantine, your dogs must spend some time in quarratine in South Africa before coming to Australia.  Then the minimum is 30 days in quarrantine here through AQIS. The facilities at the quarrantine stations are very clean and the dogs are well cared for and visits are allowed during certain hours of the day.

All the best,
Brooke

 HI,

okay, first there is the import restrictions.
Here is the information from AQIS.

The ANKC is a member of the FCI, though they have some special rules with recognising White Swiss Shepherds that are imported.

Here is the press release
http://www.ankc.org.au/home/news_details.asp?nid=73
White Swiss Shepherd Dog

Now that the ANKC has recognised the White Swiss Shepherd Dog it is essential that all Members and Data Entry personnel understand that this recognition does not apply to White German Shepherd Dogs or White Swiss Shepherd Dogs that do not have a complete Export certificate with all dogs in the background registered as White Swiss Shepherd Dogs.

* In accordance with ANKC regulations White German Shepherd Dogs cannot be registered as White Swiss Shepherd Dogs.
* Imported White Swiss Shepherd Dogs MUST have all dogs in the background of their Import Certificate registered as White Swiss Shepherd Dogs in compliance with ANKC Regulation Part 6 Clause 3.4.
* If one or more of the dogs in the background of the Import Certificate is registered as a German Shepherd Dogs the dog cannot be registered on the ANKC Main or Limited Register.
* If in the future people wish to have White German Shepherd Dogs recognised they will have to do so as a completely new separate breed with a NEW Name, and comply with ANKC Regulation Part 6 Clause 9.2 and all its sub – clauses.
* The only dogs born in Australia that can be registered as White Swiss Shepherd Dogs are those dogs resulting from the mating of two imported White Swiss Shepherd Dogs that have been registered with the ANKC on their Main Stud register, or further generations resulting from such matings.

So it is possible you might have issues with your pedigrees (virtually every breeder of White Swiss would).

There is also a woman who brought over her two WSS from South Africa just this year, that I could put you in contact with.

If you would like to contact us on info@fanuilos.com, we can look over your pedigrees if you would like to verify for you, and we can also help you with contacting the people who brought their dogs over from SA.

Hi Doveton,

I am a registered breeder of White Swiss Shepherds with the Australian National Kennel Club, they are the ONLY official body representing the WSS in Australia. At this point in time, due to the breed numbers being quite low, we are yet to have a breed club, but hopefully that will change once the breed becomes more established.

As the others above have said, Alex is INCORRECT, the White Swiss Shepherd Dog Club of Australia is NOT the breed body for WSS, and are not affiliated with the ANKC in any way. This organisation does confuse a lot of people, but it doesn't represent FCI White Swiss Shepherd Dogs.

If you should come to Australia, please register your dogs with the ANKC, the breed needs the support & bloodlines to thrive in our country. It would be a shame to lose more quality bloodlines to unofficial breeding programs. It would be fantastic to see you continue with your breeding plans, and it would be lovely to see more WSS's in the show ring!

Having gone through the process of re-registration, ensure you have an export pedigree, all dogs in this must be registered & have registration numbers. As long as your export pedigree does not contain any registered German Shepherd Dogs, you shouldn't have a problem. :)

As mentioned above, I can suggest contacting Michele from Snowey River WSS's in Sth Africa, I'm sure she'd be willing to let you know the process of coming to Australia as one of her pet puppy owners has been through it.

If you need help with anything, please feel free to get in touch, and if you come to Australia & need assistance with re-registering your dogs with the ANKC, I'd be happy to help as well.

Regards, Eishund White Swiss Shepherd Dogs
