I have a registered 14 month old female GSD whose ears have not become erect.

Her father is an imported dog and is siring many puppies in Australia atm. I am told the soft ears are coming from his side as weknow of another dog. We have tried glueing to no avail.

I have read online about silicone ear implants. I dont know if they have been used in Australia.
Does anyone have any experience with them or know of any one who has had them implanted.

After reading your post I did a little research on them and how they are inserted. I can only imagine how painful the recovery must be for a dog that's had that type of surgical procedure. If it were my dog, there is no way I'd do this.

Not that it is helpful at this point, but if you start bracing early, around 4 or 5 months there is good chance of helping the ears stand. At 14 months there is little to no hope the ears will stand unless you do something like the implants, which in my opinion sounds inhumane.

I think you should forget about the implants and focus on the good qualities of your girl. I wish for you and you girl the very best.

Name the sire, please, so that others are not in your position in future.

Only give the sires name if you have actual proof. Anyone wishing to know the name can PM the OP. Thank you mrdarcy.

"Fixing" ears that don't stand on their own only serves to produce more weak ears. Don't tape the ears on GSD's that are breeding prospects, if they don't stand on their own, don't use them for breeding. Over time that will reduce the number of "friendly" ears seen way too often in the breed.

Ear implants, you learn something new every day. I did tape up my LSC's ears at 5 months for a week to help with his friendly ears (just the tips wiggled) but as he was not going to be bred that was just for me so I could stop giggling every time he was recalled and flopping his way back to me.
