Russian President Vladimir Putin revealed that Russia is preparing for war after firing nearly 50 senior officers for refusing to confront NATO ships and warning that the world is “being pulled in an irreversible direction.” The Baltic Fleet’s Commander, Vice Admiral Viktor Kravchuk, and his chief-of-staff, Rear Admiral Sergey Popov, were among the nearly 50 officers sacked by Putin over reportedly failing to aggressively confront NATO vessels in the Baltic Sea; last month, Kravchuk and Popov were suspended by Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu for “serious shortcomings in organizing combat training, daily activities of their units, poor care of their subordinates as well as misrepresenting the real situation in their reports.” “Some hint that the ‘buzzing’ of USS Donald Cook by Russian Su-24 fighter-bombers on April 14, 2016 was meant to be part of a broader series of Russian confrontations against Western ships in the Baltic,” said international affairs analyst Peter Coates, “but the Russian Baltic Fleet in April, however, refused to follow such dangerous orders — hence Putin’s retaliation against his own naval officers.” Speaking with journalists following the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum, and amid growing NATO troop deployments in countries along the Russian border, Putin admonished the Western media for reporting “tall tales” when covering U.S. and NATO actions in Europe and ignoring the chance they will lead to nuclear war. “We know year by year what’s going to happen, and they know that we know. It’s only you that they tell tall tales to, and you buy it, and spread it to the citizens of your countries. You people in turn do not feel a sense of the impending danger – this is what worries me. How do you not understand that the world is being pulled in an irreversible direction? While they pretend that nothing is going on. I don’t know how to get through to you anymore,” he said. "

I hear ya Putin.

On the surface, things seem pretty quiet in mid-July 2016.  The biggest news stories are about the speculation surrounding Donald Trump’s choice of running mate, the stock market in the U.S. keeps setting new all-time record highs, and the media seems completely obsessed with Taylor Swift’s love life.  But underneath the surface, it is a very different story.  As you will see below, the conditions for a “perfect storm” are coming together very rapidly, and the rest of 2016 promises to be much more chaotic than what we have seen so far.

Let’s start with China.  On Tuesday, an international tribunal in the Hague ruled against China’s territorial claims in the South China Sea.  The Chinese government announced ahead of time that they do not recognize the jurisdiction of the tribunal, and they have absolutely no intention of abiding by the ruling.  In fact, China is becoming even more defiant in the aftermath of this ruling.  We aren’t hearing much about it in the U.S. media, but according to international news reports Chinese president Xi Jinping has ordered the People’s Liberation Army “to prepare for combat” with the United States if the Obama administration presses China to abandon the islands that they are currently occupying in the South China Sea…

Meanwhile, the relationship between the United States and Russia continues to go from bad to worse.

And of course the Russians have been feverishly updating and modernizing their military in preparation for a potential future conflict with the United States.  Just today we learned that the Russians are working to develop a hypersonic strategic bomber that is going to have the capability of striking targets with nuclear warheads from outer space.

Unfortunately, the Obama administration does not feel a similar sense of urgency.  The size of our strategic nuclear arsenal has declined by about 95 percent since the peak of the Cold War, and many of our installations are still actually using rotary phones and the kind of 8 inch floppy disks for computers that were widely used back in the 1970s.

Turkey's military said on Friday it had seized power, but the prime minister said the attempted coup would be put down.

If successful, the overthrow of President Tayyip Erdogan, who has ruled Turkey since 2003, would be one of the biggest shifts in power in the Middle East in years, transforming one of the most important U.S. allies in the region.

Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said the elected government remained in office. There was no immediate word from Erdogan. A source in his office said he was safe.

Airports were shut, access to Internet social media sites was cut off, and troops sealed off the two bridges over the Bosphorus in Istanbul, one of which was still lit up red, white and blue in solidarity with victims of the Bastille Day truck attack in France a day earlier.

TRT state television announced a countrywide curfew. An announcer read a statement on the orders of the military that accused the government of eroding the democratic and secular rule of law. The country would be run by a "peace council" that would ensure the safety of the population, the statement said.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking jointly after talks in Moscow, both said they hoped bloodshed would be avoided.

Turkey, a NATO member with the second biggest military in the Western alliance, is one of the most important allies of the United States in the fight against Islamic State.

It is a principal backer of opponents of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in that country's civil war, and host to 2 million Syrian refugees.

    I can't believe this!

My neighbors are there, visiting their family for vacation. I am taking care of their chickens! They are supposed to fly back home July 21st out of Istanbul!  They must be going nuts over there! I hope they can make it back with no problems. Oh dear! Oh no!

I hope so too Bee. Turkey is a Mess, Venezuelan's are eating dogs, cats, pigeons and whatever else they can find, because of their corrupt Gov't.   Our world is imploding - by design.

Order out of chaos.  Hello NWO.

So, Venezuela has corruption. What is your solution? Invade them??? That sounds more like NWO than anything I have heard. For a Canadian who's country prides themselves on remaining neutral whenever possible you sure are all about imperialism and invading other countries to fix corruption and other ills you see like Islam. Silly conservative imperialist.

Thanks Red! I think I can stop panicking, now! The Turkish people apparently took to the streets and stopped the takeover. I believe I heard the airport has now reopened so they will be able to leave Turkey. What a relief! I wasn't even sure if they were US citizens, except that their kids are.

I am now sure I will be able keep the chickens alive and happy, well enough until they return. Maybe they will come back earlier, hmm? Who knows? Having the kids to worry about and protect has got to be their greatest concern.

I don't know what to think, now. I don't think flights to the USA from Turkey are being allowed....yet..........I wish we had exchanged emails or texts! Who knew? The USA government's advice is kind of obvious... Take shelter and be vigilant. Umm. OK, and cross our fingers, too?

The news has been just frightful, lately. Murdering cops now, too, in Baton Rouge? Too many guns, in the hands of too much hatred.

Hatred plus low IQs.

by beetree on 18 July 2016 - 13:07

Cleveland police want common sense to have three day open carry ban and some gun rights diehard wants to make a stink they won't feel safe between getting out of their cars and to the convention center without their gun. Here is that low IQ thing, coming again!

Well the only way things are going to change is if politicians are hunted like police officers are. It is just a matter of time.

by Noitsyou on 18 July 2016 - 19:07

If I didn't feel safe without my gun then I wouldn't go even if I had it. IMO, a gun isn't there so you feel safe doing what you wouldn't feel safe doing without it. In other words, it's not a substitute for common sense or good judgement.
