Sooo, yes, we have a set of tracking flags in the middle of the laneway into the schutzhund club!

Here's why!

Here's Mama Killdeer sitting on the eggs:  We've surrounded it with large stones - okay, chunks of asphalt - to try to protect it. I was the one who discovered it whe Mama started to do the classic bird-with-a-broken-wing act in front of my SUV as I drove into training on Saturday.

The eggs take up to 28 days to hatch. I hope we (and mama) can keep the eggs safe that long. Fortunately, the babies are able to leave the nest as soon as they've hatched.

LOL...had to do this in my driveway a few years back, and in my front yard this year and last. Wasn't so odd looking in the driveway, I just built a little brush-wall around the site, but the ones in the front yard look like whoever cut the grass lost interest now and again, as the growth is up the 12" already...

Very cool birds, killdeers.
