What about the 1/2 breeds?  Are we white folk or Native American?

Fawn the correct word would just be half. Half breed is a very derogetory word to us. It depends on what you consider yourself. Are you half? Were you raised Native? If not then you are probably considered white. I am not a fullblood wither but I was raised native and I am very native. It's not what I chose, it's what was chosen for me to learn our ways and traditions and language.

GSD Admin I read the article and then some of the comments--what a bunch of dummies. This was posted on FB the other day and there were some pretty lively comments--of course it was posted in a native group. The native groups I belong to, you are checked out throughly and if you aren't native you don't join. I have a group on there--Unconquered and Unconquerable Chickasaws and I do the same.

I would like to add for some of the dumb comments that were made about us not being here originally. There was a study done not too long ago and they did prove that our ancestors were here since the beginning of time. Our DNA is unique in that there are certain traits that are only shown in our DNA not even similar to anyone else's. I know one will post the arguement that all DNA is unique-yes, but it also has similar traits as everyone else's except ours. And no I don't have the link, I read a lot and don't save links to everything I read.

What they said isn't satire, they are very serious. Just like this land thing that I saw another post on--the government hasd done nothing but take from us and all we have left is crumbs and now they even want those.

BTW the Department of Justice has given us the OK to grow pot and hemp on our lands for sale smoking or whatever we want to do with it. But yet the state of Oklahoma attorney general has said no way will it happen here. I don't understand that. I am not for the growing of pot, etc because I feel it will have terrible repercussions, but I am for growing hemp. Then again honestly? I believe there is a trick to all this. Haven't figured it out yet but everything up to this point has been a trick. We don't like you here so we'll move you to the Black Hills--sorry we found gold there have to take it back now. Same thing as the Apache--this land is worthless--oh we've found a rich copper mine-sorry we're going to trade you this land over here that's worthless. The Yakima and Comfederated Tribes? Same thing--oh we're sorry it's your sacred lands and we gave it to you but now the public wants to see it so we are going to open it up, put paved roads on it and probably commercial businesses that have nothing to do with anything but the dollar bill. This came up the day after the Apache land takeover. So there is always a trick and always some excuse to take it back......................Thanks for letting me share.

Oh and for more intense views on the stories you can go to Nativenewsonline.com and Lastrealindians.com.

vonissk,

The pot issue is all about the money. No real way to tax it plus in states who have legalized pot, money from forfeitures is way down. I read an article recently about police taking money from people who did nothing wrong but carry a large sum of cash. Then to get it back costs more than what was taken. Crazy crazy the way we allow police and the government to run. Cops shooting kids without even being under threat. Just an insane system.

My great grandparents were Cherokee so that makes me what 25%?

avoid the hemp, they want you to grow it and get hooked and become pacifists.

I did make a boo boo above when I was talking about smoking pot/hemp. I don't know if it is smokeable but I have been told you can't get high from it. I know it makes excellent fabric and paper, Someone even said something the other day it was strong enough for a car door. I know the US Constitution was written on hemp. I have no idea why it weas ever made illegal to start with. I do know a couple of years ago a fuy on a rez up north--I think South Dakota was growing it and OMG they had the team come in like he was cooking a million $$ in meth or something. They did destroy his crop and arrested him.

Now Admin yes the cops are getting crazier and crazier the way things are going. I have cop friends, my first mentor was a LEO K9 handler and breeder--I have had nothing but respect for them. But with all this going on today it's like things have bevome a police state waiting to happen. I know of an 8 yr old girl in SD who had a paring knife and they tazed her several times. One man in SD was drunk and sleeping it off in an abandoned car and when the tribal cops came they tazed him over 20 times because he couldn't even get up to comply with getting out of the car. There was a video of this. And it goes on and on and of course the other things are well known because they stay in the mainstream news. This is the thing, IF the tribes did the pot thing, there are going to be folks waiting outside the rez boundries to bust everybody. There are also going to be the "undesireables" showing up wanting to become an instant ndn and get on the pot bangwagon.

Now as farf as your Blood Quantum aka BQ. You see I cannot tell you that because I don't know the BQ of your grt grandparents to figure this. But tho I hate to say it this way. You have 2 dogs--a Mal and a GSD--when you breed them they are going to be half and half. The only way you could be 1/4 is if one of your grandparents was fullblood. Your grt grt grandparents of that grandparent would have both had to have been fullblood. I am 1/4, according to the BIA (Bureau of Indian Affairs) but I am more because my grandfather also had Cherokee blood--because he was never assigned a roll #, that doesn't count. My man is 7/8 because his father was 1/4 German and his mother was fullblood. Does that make sense? In some tribes you must be 1/4 to be a member because it was said a man couldn't live without 1/4 of his blood. Others such as the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw and I know there are others just not right off the top of my head you can be any amount as long as you can prove you are a direct descendant of someone who was on the rolls. I read something very interesting this morning written by Cherokee people that the Dawes Rolls was not the only rolls where the Cherokees are listed--there were at least 6 other rolls you can prove citizenship from. Now my tribe goes totally by the Dawes Rolls. The 5 Civilized Tribal rolls were closed in 1906 because of the upcoming statehood of Oklahoma--which was Nov of 1907. So when I have need of a roll # I must use my grandmother's. When I went a couple of years ago to get my daughter's card, I told the clerk that sometimes I got the number confused and she said that didn't matter because I was a tribal citizen and they could look it up. I know on some things you apply for here the only thing they will ask you is what the person's last name was (is) whose # you use. Especially on the housing applications which I thought was a little strange. Mama comes from a big time name--we are well known--and I wonder if that might be why I got a house in 3.5 years when others had to wait 10+. Not very fair cause I was willing to wait. If you are wanting to read this info, just let me know and I can PM the link to you and let you know where to find those roll names. I come over here frequently, I just rarely say anything anymore.

Everyone have a good day and Merry Christmas. Give all your puppers a hug from me..........................

I am sorry.  I did not mean to offend anyone.  I honestly thought this was all a joke, considering the comments.

Yes, my grandma was full blood because both her parents were full blood. So, any information would be helpful. I do believe my great grandma didn't appear on Dawes. I really need to spend some time on this because I have aunts and cousins who have asked me to look into this. I started but then things happened and then other things happened and on and on. Please PM me when you have time.

I wish actually you would become more involved in posting. There literally are 1000s here all day and most have given up posting for various reasons including moderation but for the most part those still posting try and be civil to each other. Complaints are down, threats of lawsuits are way down. Some had to go because they became a poison to moderation and other members. This has given us more time to really pursue those who have scammed other members through our free classifieds. Oli allows free advertising on his site and people abuse it, very similar to the abuse here in the past to members on Oli's free site. I look at it like this - if you want to abuse on others online there are 1000s of sites that allow it, we simply do not.
