Scientists say they have dated an ancient crystal called a zircon to about 4.4 billion years, making it the earliest confirmed piece of the planet's crust. The findings -- the first to describe the zircon -- were published in the journal Nature Geoscience on Sunday.

mapping the evolution of defects in crystal growth is an amazing branch of science. so many do not appreciatte that if nature was perfect then materails would lack strength for any practical human purpose and the almost infinite useful properties of the materials we use would not exist - eg computers.
nature was created imperfect evidently, i guess if you attribute a creator to it then that creator it follows is imperfect.
scientists can trump nature by way of intelligently designing and creating perfect crystals which they engineer controlled defects into and viola, like magic, we have semi-conductor physics, computers and the internet to argue that science is just another religion.

I'll wait while you prepare that argument. Forgive me if I step away for the rest of my life. ;)

Just another piece of the puzzle to help prove that the earth is older than 6,000, 2000 or however old some would have you believe. These things go against the fairy tale and so some have a hard time believing them and will go to great lengths to try and disprove them.
Shtal,
Talk to me about how long ago dinosaurs roamed earth. In your fairy tale belief system explain why dinosaurs were never mentioned in the bible?
