I wish they wouldn't do this to me. The ad says the new A7 chip and wi-fi is twice as fast, "ultrafast". I am a sucker for words like that. I might not be able to wait for Santa Claus. Hmmm? Space Gray or Silver?

Oh, and if someone can clear up this 5 Ghz   vs.   2.4 Ghz standard and how does that fit in with being in radio mode ending with "n" or, "a" and something called NAT port mapping... or any of those ?

I am thinking that I want to find a channel or frequency a little bit different than everyone else's LAN? Seems when the neighbor's all get home I am more prone to wi-fi drops. Or am I just imagining it? I just want the best speed I can get, really. But maybe I should just leave everything the way it is for a while.... go bake some cookies, instead? Wondering

2.4 is the common freq. n is faster. channel has nothing to do with either of those. Unless you changed it, your router is likely set up to use 2.4, and automatically vary across the channels and protocols.

Bee,

Here is an article on the 2.4 Ghz vs. 5 Ghz. If you scroll down a bit it gives the pros and cons of each.

PS, go buy it Aries, you don't have the patience to wait until Christmas. LOL

Thanks ML. I will have to read it a couple times to try and figure it all out. Wow. I really started to get into the "master" and "slave" device thing! Omg Smile Maybe that's my problem, too many masters and not enough slaves? The oldest iMac, never, ever drops. Hmmm.

So, I think it would seem to be overkill maybe, since I am not really into industry, but I do seem to find ways to add devices, etc., between all the phones and portables. And my new neighbors have all their stuff ... well, looks like it is one of those things that will be what everyone wants in a few years.

Weird, it says the 5 Ghz band has a narrower range, and different materials absorb differently, so hmmm.
