There is so much money in College Football, but what if the 9th ranked, UGA Bulldogs, paid 975,000 to get beat? Right now, the score is North Texas 21 - UGA 21.

I'm just not a football fan Abhay.
I think the money....gambling have ruined what could be great.

The second I made the post, the Bulldogs started going right through them. Man, I am addicted to Football, College and Pro. I Love it all. I go into deep depression, when the season ends.

Moons, I don't think you like any sports, do you! You poo-poo'ed basketball, too. Sometimes participating in those betting squares are the only reason to watch for me. Tongue Smile

I know UConn is spending big money because they want to play with the big boys. I think they have some of the highest paid administrators in the country, too. You have to be competitive. I just wonder if the theory works. Sometimes paying all that moola makes me wonder if the top one's just want you to think you are getting your money's worth. So, they'll take it, if it's for the taking.

Beetree!  I'm very impressed!  Betting, makes it sooo much more fun. Since I'm so obsessed with my daughter, I really get into Women's Basketball, and Volleyball too.  I agree with you, on wondering about the theory.  Tonight, little CSU, in Ft Collins, Colorado, will travel to #1 Alabama. Should be a blowout. I would Love, if CSU could do a miracle, and actually win.  The best Vet School in the nation is at CSU.

Bee,
I like to play more than watch, I played a lot of Basketball as a kid with two brothers and my dad, on our own half court mostly.
I even played Football for a short time as a high school freshman, but what I really loved was being there watching from the stands, especially on a beautiful fall evening with a cool nip in the air.
Wrestled a bit and ran track some too in high school.
What I didn't like in school was the pressure put on us by the coaches, and a bit of politics already creeping into the game, and some good old fashion favoritism, who's kid are you sorta thing.
Besides, I discovered other things in high school I liked much much more.....:)

Always loved those northern bowl games in the snow, back when they played on real turf.

I do gamble but selectively, with common sense, mostly at the horse track.
Have gone to the casino but that's just purely for amusement, haven't done either in a long time.

Big money has corrupted every sport and I'm not talking about your wagers, it's a billion dollar industry and it does effect the game and the players.

I watch a few games, watch some racing, sometimes the Olympics especially winter sports, some boxing, but I'm not the die hard sports fan at all.
I've gone to Baseball games in Evansville where parts of (A League of Their Own) was filmed it's really great, has that small home town feel to it.
Madonna didn't like Evansville much, she didn't meet the right people is all I can say.

For a real fan I understand the fun and excitement of gambling, just don't care for gambling for the sake of gambling, the odds are always against you.

Moons.

Sports are not kind. Sports are Brutal. Take Athletics serious enough in HS, and depending on the sport, it can leave an athlete damaged for life. Might be physically, might be mentally or both. To insure success, an athlete has to be great. Average, or above average, won't get anywhere. In order to get by all the bullshit, and negative variables, an athlete must be great.  Certain Sports don't leave the outcome to cheating in any way. Track is great, because the tape measure and stop watch decide the winner.
Wrestling, is another sport, where it is difficult to cheat.  Wrestling, is not a team sport. Like Louden Swain, say's in Vision Quest, When you're on the mat with somebody stronger and faster than you are, there's not a whole hell of a lot a team can do for you.  When it comes to Team Sports, an athlete better really be great! lol  Even if an athlete is extremely gifted, the training needed to excel is literally Torture, and one needs to learn to love pain or forget about it.  The actual event, or game, is the easy part. The hours and hours of training to enhance an athlete's physical potential for their sport, is the hard part.
The Brutality of Athletics, has a Beauty that draws an audience.  It's a high better than any drug.

Locally we had a kid die from heat a few years ago on the field under poor supervision.
But yeah I agree with you about everything else.
