i was a kid at catholic college when vietnam was on and we all had to go pray as a whole school everyday for them - did not understand why they got spat on when they got home and excluded from mainstream society, when i got older i figured there was lack of support for them and that such would never happen again - UK recently published data that the suicide rate of vets exceeded KIA for current deployment, not sure what time frame the two rates were referring to, eg total time, month???
troops have seen and suffered more than any person should have to on our behals so we don't have to.
there are lots of orgs now that understand and know what yr going thru, just pick the dam phone up if you need to and talk to someone, you owe it to yrself, yr buddies and yr families.
i thank and respect all veterans of all wars for allowing my freedom

Very sad. A lot of the men in my family are veterans including my husband and father. I had an uncle who served in WWII and became an alcoholic after the war. He never got his life together after that. He is deceased. One of my niece's is married to a recent Army vet who has mild PTSD from the Iraq war. Another niece of mine is married to an officer in the Army who returned from Afghanistan in February. He saw action, but is not dealing with PTSD.

How out of touch with reality can someone get.

Your whole post.
How old were you in 1969?
You think it's a lack of support do ya?
And finally this,
(i thank and respect all veterans of all wars for allowing my freedom)
Are you in the Uk, or America?
Just curious.

VK4GSD, did you know that many times seeking psychological help will go against any further advancement in the military? I have a few good friends who are psychologists working with veterans at VA centers, you can not believe the hoops soldiers need to jump through and the stigma of seeking psychological help still exists both in the military and in the civilian world. Also, many times the powers that be would rather the soldier be medicated and returned to duty quickly rather than undergo non-medication yet empirically supported treatment that takes much longer but as a whole is more effective.
Those "orgs" (there are lots of orgs now that understand and know what yr going thru) are not always run or even affiliated with licensed counselors or psychologists trained and experienced in the unique needs of returning soldiers. Some of those "orgs" are decent but it is hard for someone hurting so deeply to pick out the good from the useless. Many times those that need help the most are least aware they need it. So it is not as simple as "just pick the dam phone up if you need to and talk to someone, you owe it to yrself, yr buddies and yr families."

?????
if you actually want to do something positive then instead of finding holes in my "argument" why don't you just use yr supposed knowledge to provide some links to resources or something. yes this is a dog forum and some guy suffering on the pavement will not read it but i am not omniscient and by the law of probability there might be some vet on here that might just get the message and act on it. you cannot predict who will react to what message where and how so why you trying to be so negative?
what age are you guys, what did you do to support vets current or past, wave a flag at them?
there is nothing else to discuss here and there wasn't anything to discuss at the start, ya wanna help then help or just shut up.

vk4,
( moons what are you trying to get out of this thread? i don't actually want to know but just a question you could ask yrself.)
I asked myself, why can't he spell (yourself)?
What's with the yr ?
You must be a texter master or some shit.
Enough of that bullshit,
I wasn't getting anything out of it at all vk, you don't seem to know jack shit about anything.
I do believe I know why.
Mindhunt made some very good points and while your on a dog forum right now your in the off topic area, we don't talk about dogs here.
And the poor guy on the street, vet or not, has plenty of places he could call, hell they advertise on TV here.
If you think your freedom has anything to do with all the wars your in need of some counseling yourself my friend.
You don't get to tell people here to shut up.
Moons.

ok i get it YR a bored internet guy that likes to make something out of nothing cos.....well YR bored.
i will play with yr disrespectful self for awhile cos i'm, well, bored to.
yes i do think i owe my freedom directly to vets otherwise i would be speaking and writing in japanese or german in the unlikely advent that the internet was even invented and the more unlikely event that regular citizens would even be allowed to use it or would even be allowed to have all the pointless opinions i have let alone express them, unlikely we would even be allowed to think or know what thinking for yrself is without the sacrifice of our vets for mine and your freedom. is that a difficult concept for you?
you could try living in middle east perhaps and see if you are still so disrespectful and ungrateful.
"you don't seem to know jack shit about anything.
I do believe I know why."
please do expand, that alone would be worth logging on for.
