Confirmed! Newfound Particle Is the Higgs
Some are claiming confirmation because all data, so far, points in that direction. I'll wait until next year before I celebrate, but it sure is an exciting time in history! This will literally open new worlds, or at least give us the mechanisms to do so!

I knew you'd post this....LOL
I believe certain things should be left alone personally.
We are where we are now for the very same reasons.

It's our destiny Moons and personally, I'm grateful to be alive during a time when we're set to advance by leaps and bounds. At least I got to witness the event horizon of technology! I such a nerd sometimes

I love Brian Cox, he's one of my favorite scientists

Cindi,
Sorry if I don't share your excitement or your idea of what our destiny might be.
Yes we've been witness to many leaps and bounds, like the nuclear age, that one we will be suffering from forever.
If we last one hundred years as Brian says, we'll see.
A lot of ifs.
If the planet survives us.
If we survive each other.
Maybe we could time travel through a black hole to another world in another universe and begin again destroying another planet.
Maybe meet a god, who knows.
Of course everyone won't make the journey, only the few, the chosen.
Technology through out history has brought more problems than solutions if you look at the whole of it.
Destiny?
I would hope we wouldn't become so dependant on technology, it's a poor substitute for what life should be, and it's not just our lives at stake.
We don't see things in quite the same light I guess.
Brent.

No, we don't agree on that. To me, this is exciting. I like the natural world and hopefully, it will be technology that will stop us from destroying it. Our destiny is to seek answers and at times, we look too far beyond ourselves, that I'll give you. But stunting the growth of knowledge can only result in more pain and suffering. As bad as we've messed things up, we've also done a lot of good and if we can ever get to a point where we can figure out how to live in harmony with nature, without destroying it, we will have accomplished the ultimate in harmonizing our existence and finding a true path to peace. I have a feeling that saving the planet will force us to work together, worldwide.
We are past the point of no return and our only hope is science. I like it here Moons, I love life. I love my own life as well as the life of society. I can deal with it on my own terms, it doesn't scare me, it fascinates me.. I've found peace with that and with myself and I'll not live a miserable existence to atone for things I have no control over. Each of us has the destiny of defining who we are and if we were all the same, life wouldn't be nearly as interesting. I change what I can control and I prefer to look forward, while living in this moment, it's all we ever truly have... I'll never hide from the truth, no matter how scary or ugly. That's me.

Big "IF". I'd like to be as optimistic as you, Travels; but a sneaking
cynicism makes me identify just as much with Moons point of view.
Seems to me every time humans find another technological break
through point, a little bit of good comes from applying it, but then a
great deal of harm also follows - mainly due to commercial reasons, I feel.

To live in harmony with the natural world takes no technology, just the opposite.
I don't think our only hope is science.
Peace among humans requires space which we ran out of a long time ago.
Work together?
Show me three people who can agree on anything.
We pass a new point of no return everyday in one way or another.
Some things you can never take back, return, or put back in the box.
Control is an illusion.
We once drew strength from the struggle, now look at us.
No, I believe dependance on technology will ultimately be our undoing, you can see it already.
We are so dependant now that we can't do what is necessary to fix what we have broken.
And broken it is.
