Oh wait! It's rallies all over the US AGAINST gun control. The media doesn't cover that.

Hate to burst your paranoia bubble but it is all over the internet news. Yahoo, USA Today, AP, Reuters, CNN and plenty of others. I guess you probably haven't seen it as you have been in your safe room, waiting for the end.

by Ninja181 on 20 January 2013 - 20:01
So now we are labeling legal gun owners as paranoid, having safe rooms and waiting for the end.
Yep, that's me. I'm headed down stairs shortly to clean the guns and count the ammo.

Why not you label others all the time it is what your ilk does, lol.

Ninja et al, most people I know want more reasonable gun laws that may help protect our kids and grandkids from another massacre at the hands of a looney tune. How many times have the following questions been opened for debate and the responses end up being spins about abortion, the price of health care, and dying in car crashes, etc. One more time........
Do you agree or disagree and why:
1. Should private dealers at gun shows be required to conduct background checks before finalizing a sale?
2. Should high capacity magazines be available to anyone who wants them?
3. Should mental health records be a part of a national database that is used for background checks on prospective gun buyers?
4. Do hunters need high capacity magazines?
5. How would you define an assault weapon?
6. Do you think buying that assault weapon should require a more stringent background check? A "special" license?

Blitzen how dare you bother me when I'm cleaning the guns and counting the ammo. LOL
First and foremost there are over 2000 gun laws already in effect, they aren't enforced.
Unlike the anti-gun crowd, I, am more interested in what is causing Mass Murder. I think that has to be identified first in order to make a difference.
My state MA has the most stringent gun laws on record.
#1) In my state you can't purchase ANY gun without a backround check called into the FBI office. You also have to fill out a form that asks questions about mental health, any convictions etc. etc. Also you cannot purchase a gun from any other state or person and have it shipped to you. It must first be shipped to a license dealer and run thru the process I mentioned earlier in this paragraph.
#2) High capacity magazines should be available to anyone IMO who has legally proven they are capable of owning a gun.
3#) Mental health records. I don't like the government controlling anything. But it is obvious that the mental health of the people commiting the recent Mass Murders is a REAL Problem. This is an area that needs a lot of improvement IMO. So I'm wide open to suggestion here.
4) Do hunters need high capacity mags? In my state you can't even hunt with a rifle. Shotgun yes and I believe the alloted amount of rounds is 5 or less.
5) The real definition of assault weapons is fully automatic. Like a machine gun, you pull the trigger it continues to fire until out of ammo or you let go of the trigger. The press has dubbed semi-autos assault rifles. Semi require the trigger to be pulled for each shot.
6) My state already has more than one type of license. The one I have is for "high capacity" with "no restictions". We have backround checks, fingerprints, you must attend an approved gun safety course, you must have two letters of recommendation on company letterhead paper etc., in order to attempt to get a license. Also the chief of Police in your town can prohibit anyone, without justification from obtaining a license. He has the final say. You can appeal and go to court if denied, but it is expensive and very few times does the judge overturn the chief of police. There was a recent article here that a person was denied on the grounds that there was a record of him being involed in a fistfight in 1966.
Also the fee for a license here is $100.00. That is a state law. There is I believe a lawsuit in place because some towns have raised the price in violation of the state law. Also when people go to renew some towns are making people wait over 6 months. I believe there is another lawsuit over that.

Making mental health records part of a national database is a violation of HIPAA, federal law. Also what exactly would be included in that "mental health" record? Who would be included? Would you include anyone who has sought therapy or treatment for anxiety, depression, a bad breakup, stress, insomnia? How about the soldiers returning from war who have sought help dealing with the issues they faced and are facing now (soldiers are trained in the safe use of firearms so this would be an intersting dilema). Would you also include children who are medicated for ADD or ADHD, since they might want a license to own a firearm when they are old enough. How about the abused wife/girlfriend who sought psychological help to get over the trauma, a human trafficking victim who needed therapy to be able to cope with the horrific experience? A victim of child abuse? Where would it end
The majority of mentally ill are NOT violent? I repeat, are NOT violent? The majority are not a danger to the general public. There is SUCH a stigma with mental health that many who require therapy will not seek help because of the ramifications. Lumping all mentally ill into the same category of "potentially dangerous" is the same as labeling them as guilty, just haven't had the opportunity to harm others yet. Gee sounds an awful lot like what many on this website are against, BSL, only in human form.

Good post Mindhunt. Besides some people just snap. The mental health angle is a very slippery slope.
For this not making the news I am reading it on our local news, even.

I don't know about where you are, but to obtain my CCW I had to sign off on a mental health records check, fingerprints, background check from
all counties I have lived in etc...
1. The state of NC requires a pistol permit, obtained from the SO to purchase any pistol, which is good for one year I believe. When you purchase your pistol,
you must give the seller said permit, be it retail or private seller. CCW is exempted from this. Seller must obtain photocopy of CCW to keep in their records.
All rifles and shotgun sales are with background check called in.
2. I second Ninja
3. In my state, if you have a CCW then they have already passed a mental health records check, which you must give them permission to run. Mental health
is a problem, and access to help and recognition of those who need help is lacking. Do I believe my rights as a gun owner should be limited because I have
a child with disabilities? NO
4. Only if they are crappy hunters.....
5. Assault weapon is a firearm that is capable of 3 round burst or fully auto... you pull the trigger and either a. you get 3 rounds in full auto before you have
to pull the trigger again or b. keeps firing until you stop pulling the trigger. A semi auto weapon that LOOKS like a full auto is not an assault weapon.
6. Full auto weapons already do require special permissions from big brother and the purchase of a tax stamp. Being that a semi auto rifle is not
an assault rifle, no, I do not believe there should be any more background checks then there already are. It is no different then buying a semi auto

What about sales from individuals? I would venture to guess it is not that difficult to buy a gun in NC.
