I ask this because you go to a Dr and you tell him your symptoms and what has helped you in the past, but he says Oh I'd rather not give you that it is habit forming. But here's this new drug I think you should try out. Now it is a controlled substance but it's not addictive. Neither does he tell you the laundry list of side effects. OK I'll try it. Lyrica for diabetics, fibromyalgia and damaged nerves/pain in general. I get it a week ago today. By Sunday I am dizzy, blurred vision, staggering around like I am buzzed and the best part-hallucinating. Monday morning I got up feeling pretty good, go take Sister, had some breakfast, took a nap woke up and was so disoriented I barely knew my name. Tuesday get up, feel good, go to school, run a couple of errands, dog sitter came by to get the keys. About 3 fell asleep in my chair and woke up again not knowing what day it was or anything. Called the Dr yesterday Oh it should be out of your systems by now--all this isn't possible--well it's so impossible I have felt so weird all day today I went to the ER. This dr is finally honest with me and says it goes in your system real fast but takes a long time to come out. So it may be Monday or Tuesday before I finally feel like I am halfway human again. Supposed to be leaving in the morning for Denver for the Nationals. Nope not this year. So yep I think drs must make something or get a kickback off selling new drugs. I am no guiana (sp) pig and I am going to make that very very clear next month when I go in for my visit. Thanks for letting me vent................

Ive worked in the medical field my entire life. Rarely will docs ever tell you the side effects because to be quite frank......most of them have never read the literature and don't even know what all the side effects are. Good docs imo, stick with what works and won't opt for "the new fad of the day"

I don't work general practice and have stayed pretty much with speciality groups. Reps were given a 5 min "speak as fast as you can" time limit and most never get through the door to give their speel. I like it that way. Keeps docs on time and the crap in the waiting room.

Sorry you had the side effects and your doc wasn't willing to sit and actually listen to you. Good docs are hard to find and will be getting harder to find once the uuummmm Obama care kicks in.

Thank you very much for your feedback. And I still have one more thing to add. Not only about the side effects but also what meds go with what. When all this began to happen, I am over here looking up WebMD with one eye and trying to read. One thing that DID stand out was codiene intensified all this. They knew damn well they prescribed me Tylenol 3's--I had a bad headache so I assume because noone told me any different, it was safe to take them together. OMG.............
Boy I sure agree with you about the good ones being hard to find The last one I had was a real jerk. I happen to really like my new one just not sure if I can ever trust him again. And yes I am going to tell him this ain't gonna fly Dr Davis--I liked the ER dr--he told me I can do some bloodwork and a CAT scan and I said no I don't need all that--I believe you have told me the truth and that was all that was needed.
Good for where you work to keep them out in the waiting room. I think it's better for all of us. Again thanks--now I have a little more to work with..............

I love that way you do the Grrr Jackie. By the way I am feeling more human and yes I have decided to take a chance I will continue to feel better, so if you guys don't hear from me for a few days, I am off to the Nationals..............

Hope you make it to the Nationals.....

As far as drugs and doctors working for the drug companies....

I'm not sure they work for the companies, I think they like to try new and better drugs to see if they actually work. Unfortunately they don't do the research first..

I never accept a prescrip for anything "new" without first asking of there's a older or generic available (mainly due to cost). I ask if he's prescribed the older drug before and how his patients tolerated it. I also ask about drug interactions.

My parents take a list of every med and suppliment they are on and the dose....they have their doctor sign off that he's seen the list and that the new drug will not adversly affect them due to interactions...... the doctor usually switches to a much better know and safer drug.

If the doctor won't sign off, they find another who will.

Hope you get well soon.

Glad you are doing better and good luck at the nationals (please do not drive there by yourself).

Vonissk, first, glad you feel better. And, hope you go to nationals. Docs these days are the worst Drug pushers ever. At least the ones on the streets go to jail occasionally. I went to a dentist early this year who insisted on giving me a prescription for analgesic. I looked at it and it was for oxycodnone (spelling?) I didn't bother going to the drug store, just tore up the Rx and took Alieve. I have a good friend who is seventy two years old and about three months ago went to the dr for "check up" . He prescribed meds for ostioperosis and she had all the bad side effects that can happen and is still having problems, even having to be in the hospital for scans for liver problems caused by the meds. A person goes to the "doctor" feeling fine, and the medical system ends up creating a health problem that generates $20,000 for a friggin endoscopy to have a look see at the liver and bile duct. Also, when you need to know anything concerning drug interaction or side effects, don't ask "Doctor", ask a pharmacist.
