After reading a few threads debating the merits/safety/pros/cons of e-collars, I should state that isn't the intent of this question...

Is it standard practice for trainers who utilize/prefer e-collars to only train on them in a 'board and train' scenario?  I've never been fond of the idea of sending my dog(s) to someone else to be trained (understanding that they do the foundation work and then transition and teach me how to maintain it), as I'd like to be in on it and learning from the beginning.  I'm not totally opposed to the e-collar, but am wondering if there are trainers who will teach clients how to use it properly and effectively in regular training sessions, or if the 'board and train' is the common method of training on e-collar use.

Thanks.

My business is board and train.  I have never used an e-collar.  I have no issue with their use.  I have never been trained to use one so I don't.

Some trainers will set up individual lessons for that sort of instruction.  I don't believe its something thats commonly done in a "group" setting as there would be too many variables.  Otherwise, check the Leerburg videos...I'm quite sure they have a "how-to" one on the use of e-collars that might give you the basics.

Yes, Leerburg has a very informative DVD on using a remote collar.  There is even a discount on it if you buy one of thier ecollars.  I didn't wait the full two weeks (as suggested) to start using mine, about 10 days and it has been a wonderful tool!  Very possible, a life saver on the recall.
