Congratulations to Egyptians and Arabs for the new freely elected president, Mohammed Mursi. What is important is not who became the president, more important is the way he reached the presidency; through true transparent elections, this is a new day, new erra for Egypt and the Arab World.
I personally wish Hamdin Sabbahi won the seat, maybe next time

Ya, congrats.
My friend Motaz from Salt Jordan called me last night on Skype to tell me it's safe now for me to vacation over there !! He was excited and overjoyed the whole time talking to me -- Mursi must be a good guy because Motaz is a Ron Paul supporter !!!

The big question now is will the military allow him control?

Safe to visit Egypt my rear!! THe new Pres is MB....bad days are yet to come.

Bob, looks like you're following closely on what's going on in Egypt. Well if he doesn't grab all powers he's entitled to as a president then he doesn't deserve them. Also if he narrows his vision to that of the Islamic Brotherhood he won't enjoy the support of all Egyptians for long. More important for Egypt is to complete the revolution goals. We can only watch and see what the coming days will bring for the Egyptians after all the sacrifices. Electing, freely, a president is a step in the right direction.

I've had a "soft spot" for Egypt since I had a glorious holiday there, quite a lot of years ago. Became very aware of the differences between westernised city folk and the rural poor.
Anything acheived 'democratically' has to be better than the old Mubarack regime, or Military control.
At the moment, Dr Mursi sounds like a reasonable person. Time will tell. Partly depends on how much control the Military hand over.

I try to keep up to date on the happenings in the middle east. Just like with Oil prices strating to really drop I expect we will hear from our Pershion(not spelled right i,m sure) friends with some saber rattleing to drive the price right back up.

**Persian** ;)
SUre the democratic process is vital to stability in the region; however, exactly how "democratic" was it. "Free and fair" elections are not the only marker of democracy and a metric I would say is not wholly adequate to Egypt.
As most likely do not know who the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) his...think protogenitor of Al Qaeda (with regional vice global goals). Osama bin Laden's successor (Zawahiri) was in the MB....Sayeed Qutb, a KEY figure in shaping al Qaeda ideology, was in the MB.
Bottom line, the summer of change/democracy or whatever crap the Obama administration called it is NOT really a good thing for global/regional interests!!!

FLRanger,
Sayed Qutub was a MB but not Zawahri (Qaeda leader now). Muslim Brotherhood were always peaceful people while Jihad factions believed in armed struggle, from those Jihad factions emerged Al Qaeda.
Just a side note here, do not forget that Al Qaeda was created, supported with money and weapons by the US and Saudi Arabia during Russian occupation of Afghanistan, this same Al Qaeda turned later against Saudi Arabia and the US (or this is what the US wants us to believe).
Please note that the US, the Europeans and Saudi Arabia plus Qatar are sending money and weapons to Al Qaeda in Syria to fight against Al Assad. Isn't it strange !!! Isn't politics an ugly thing?
