I can't think of a better place to invest 8.8 billion dollars in these times, can you?

Knowing the secrets of the universe might seem very important to some, while others would just like to know where their next meal is coming from, and where they will sleep tonight.

Super committee my ass.

Thanks for the links Turk,
I love watching that clock run out the numbers, insane is it not.

The Webb Space Telescope directly supports 1,200 jobs.

You want to be pissed off about something, how about the $12 billion that literally DISAPPEARED in Iraq.
I'm not talking about the cost of OIF/OEF.  I'm talking about $12 billion, in cash, that was airlifted into Iraq and "disappeared".

Lost.  Gone.  We don't know where $12,000,000,000 went, and those who do know aren't sharing it with us.

Yes, $8 billion does seem like an awful lot for a telescope.  The costs increased every time the project was delayed as debates over it's funding ensued.
Meanwhile, we could pay for the whole project if we could just find that $12 billion that evaporated.

You want to balance the budget?  Get the hell out of Iraq.
The monetary cost, the cost of human life, the loss of economic productivity when families are torn apart by long deployments, Disabled Veterans and the cost of the VA system that must support them, the cost of infrastructure overseas, all to maintain a presence where we aren't needed.

I was in Iraq for the surge in '07.
We could have come home in May of 2008.  The time has long come to declare a victory and bring 'em home.
Isn't that what you promised us, President Obama?

I don't expect anyone to agree.

The cost of this telescope is less than 25% of the annual cost of the war on drugs not counting the loss of productivity resulting from locking up otherwise law-abiding citizens, often for nothing more than using marijuana in the privacy of their own homes.

. . . every country or nation has some stupid, awful and disgraceful periods of it's history. May be the united states is having it's own field day these times. But this isn't a GSD related issue. Mod where are you.

NigerDeltaMan, this is the off-topic forum.
Not only are non-dog topics encouraged, they are the only ones allowed.

Myracle,
1,200 jobs and soldiers coming home, somehow the numbers just don't quite add up when ya add the 14 million unemployed we already have it's even worst.

Now, if the automatic cuts ever actually go into effect, who do you think will lose out?

They could take 8.8 billion and finance home grown small business to create jobs but that's not gonna happen either is it.

I can see the day when it will be cheaper to burn dollars than firewood in my stove.

Then we have the occupy movement, pure genius.
A group camp out with no chance of advancement, no demands or solutions.

NigerDeltaMan,
wake up!

LOL,
Moons.
