If you have a friend or family member in the USA whose home is in foreclosure or approaching foreclosure, advise them to make sure they investigate the "robo-signing or MERS issue.  This has been soft-peddalled in the major media, but has resulted in some judges throwing many foreclosure cases and repossessions out of court because the repossessor couldn't prove they actually owned the home or properly transferred the deed and all the required paperwork through the legally required steps.

This is a very big scandal and is related to the "home mortgage bubble".  If you dig a little using google.com searches, you cvan likely find out the specifics of this huge scandal.  Experts have blamed this on the mortgage companies attempt to streamline apperwork without following the legal requirements of each state (ie deed recording etc) in order to be able to unload or "sell the paper".  This resulted in this mortgage paper being packaged into large groups and sold many times over as high order int'l investments.

Historically, when one obtained a mortgage it was held by their initial issuer, typically their local bank.  But this repackaging of mortgages and their sale in large groups as financial investmenst with amny different layers, was only possible with the deficient MERS system.  Best solution is to consult with an attorney that specializes in this type of financial fraud.  Don't take my word for it do your own research, find out for yourself what the facts are.
