What is considered the idea kennel size as I know dog don't like to defecate were they live. What is the good ideas for design. Obvioulsy these would only be used during times of separating dogs or other situation. I likemy dogs to be with me as mucha s possible.

we have a potty pen, that is attached to the runs it is 6'x6' and that seems enough room for them, we don't even use out runs right now, and the dogs still go to the potty pen to potty, that way I only have one area to clean up rather than my hole back yard. Kari

You want a minimum of 10 ft x 10 ft for a holding pen. For an outdoor run you want a minimum of 6ft 10ft. If you're looking to build something more of an outdoor living area, think about 10 ft x 20 ft. All of these are with a minimum height of 6ft.

I just dont prefer long narrow runs as I feel it does something to the dogs mind. Turns them into anxious pacers and the like in my opinion. I have a turnout kennel for when I am isolating that is 14 X 14 it is large enough they have a defication area still allows for a hammock bed the attached dog house is on the outside attached to the kennel so that works well and the area is still small enough to cover the flooring in a snaitary dog friendly substrate. I also have a five gallon filtered water system with a water cooler attached the container is high enough not to allow paws to play in it and is tethered for no tipping. There is both shade and sun provided at any time of the day the dog house also has winter/ summer walls that provide for each season with simple unattaching of the outer layer to reveal slats for summer breezy protection and containment. I have never had worm or other parasite trouble with the water system I designed there is no odor or still water for larve or disease. The kennel does not attract flies or have an odor. The dogs have always kept it neat and have seemed happy within the confines no nervous or bad habits ever resulted.
