Exactly, Carlin, why? When I wasn't sure if I was going to have to pay for a recent procedure, I requested an estimate I was told - this is the "normal" price but we do offer a 30% discount to anyone without insurance. Huh?

by Blitzen on 21 May 2013 - 17:05

Moons  you are right, no one should be forced into buying health insurance unless they want to receive care. If they opt to not see a doctor then that's fine with me. Just don't go out and do the town on Saturday night, spend $100  on texting friends, smoke a carton of cigs a week,  and expect me to pay the bill because they say they can't afford their premiums. Anyone who qualifies to opt out is still able to get health care. Anyone who can pay and won't shouldn't get it period if they refuse to pay as they go. Fair enough?

I also agree with you about the strangle hold the insurance companies have on the country.

I think there should be discounts for cash personally.
They won't even let you in for cash, they don't have the set-up for cash period.
Ever see a cash register in a doctors office, nope.

Everyone pays out to the insurance companies one way or another.
It ads to the cost at every turn, and we the consumer pay it two and three times because it is added to those costs.
No matter what, no matter who pays in or out, the insurance companies make profit.
Enormous profits, while we get the shaft.
Name one business that isn't insured, everything we have is at some point insured.
Monopoly.

Once upon a time it was called protection, back when you payed in a brown paper sack to some guy without a neck.

With health care they have you by the short hairs for sure, nothing else carries as much power or effects our live in such a profound manner.

Moons,

My Dr. takes cash and the other Dr I used to see also took cash and gave a discount for cash paying patients.

by Blitzen on 22 May 2013 - 09:05

LOL some of the vets I worked for loved cash because they didn't report it as income. It went directly into their pockets.

by Blitzen on 22 May 2013 - 09:05

I'm probably going to hate myself for this, but I agree 100% with Moons about insurance companies.

Living in Florida, I am told quite frequently that my auto insurance rate continues to climb because of "the hurricanes".  What?  First of all, my vehicles have nothing to do with someone who chooses to build their million dollar home on a sandbar off the coast.  I haven;t gotten into any accidents, so technically, my liability should be decreasing.  I think the rates went up over 40% in six years.  I understand how insurance works, and wouldn't have a problem with it if it were not compulsory.  As it stands, it's the mother of all rackets.

I live in FL too and my rates have not gone up at all in the 3 years we've been here, They did go  up a little when we left PA. We have a motorhome and an SUV insured with Geico. We do pay a hurricane surcharge though.

It's the government's mentality of letting the fox guard the hen house that the fox designed.  The banking lobby is designing the financial banking regulations, REALLY????  Bet you the same happened with medical expenses.  Lobbies for Big Pharma, Hospitals, Insurance, and anyone else profiting from this most likely was EXTREMELY influential in drafting any guidelines and regulations that have to do with our health care.  Once this kind of s**t is stopped then maybe we can get back to reality and people actually having a say in what the government does, make the government afraid of the power of the people not the other way around.
