BTW, bee, I know a "private" zoo owner who 'bought' and owned a Snow Leopard (very endangered species), USDA licensed. He also has an endangered Orangutan. Fancy that, bee. And he buys and sells elephants, for profit. And he sells excess herd animals, and large cats ( lions, tigers, leopards, mountain lions) to game reserves (hunting clubs).....all legal with the blessings of USDA.
See, bee, the USDA is there for the money, not the welfare of the animals, and the zoo owner's are in it for the money, not the welfare of the animals. Preservation is an excuse to exist. No zoo is going to rehabitat the earth with tigers, or black rhinos.

Clearly, there is a disconnect between my words and yours. Name the zoo, is all I am saying. I will look into it for myself. Thanks.

Bee, you challenged Hexe to name the "accredited zoos" that are selling conservancy program animals. Hexe did notdifferenciate the animals being sold, from what I read in her post.
There is no need for you to look into the example I gave....the USDA has that covered.
There are excess animals being produced in all zoos, unless they don't allow intermingling of male and female of the same species. So they have to go somewhere with them, endangered or not.

by beetree on 29 October 2013 - 10:10

There is that disconnect, again!

Being precise by naming who anyone, not just you/or what zoo(s) you are talking about would indeed be helpful to me. Oh, and... I am sure Hexe doesn't need you to translate, either. You do a terrible job is all!

No RED here Bee?
Busy little Bee............... Zoo expert, animal expert......I don't think so Dave.

I have had dealings with people in the animal business for years and I think your way out in left field just like you always are Bee.

I could probably locate and put you together with a seller of just about any animal you care to name, endangered or not.

it's a very big industry.

by joanro on 29 October 2013 - 11:10

I do a terrible job? Stating what I read in a post is not translating...more of your twists and turns, bee.

by joanro on 29 October 2013 - 11:10

Why should you need any help from me, bee? After all, according to you, I'm misguided and stupid. Do your own research.

by beetree on 29 October 2013 - 12:10

Joan: The simple reason is: because you can't. Disconnect... click! I didn't want to embarrass you any more than you are already doing to yourself, but your USDA comment was way out stuck under the dugout bleachers somewhere.

Moons: Give me some of those Zoo supplier names, try me. I'll get back to you on this. Let's talk about the same thing.

Most of the really large sales (auctions) are advertised Bee, start in Texas.
As for individuals well that's sort of an underground, no one wants people like you getting back to anyone.

Why don't you ask your accredited zoo where they get their animals....

Here is one paragraph from an article on Zoo animals.

The magazine's inquiry is based on an examination of the tightly restricted, inter-zoo International Species Information System database, which tracks transfers of 129 species of mammals, as well as interviews with dozens of state and federal regulators, zoo employees, and animal welfare activists. Records show that some leading AZA members-including zoos in Washington, D.C.; the Bronx; San Diego; Honolulu; Memphis; Atlanta; Denver; Santa Barbara, Calif.; Buffalo; Phoenix; Montgomery, Ala.; and Kansas City, Mo.-have shipped mammals and exotic birds to roadside zoos that were below AZA standards. Some have also provided animals to dealers who reportedly sell to private hunting ranches, animal auctions, and exotic-pet owners.
