Make the simple syrup a few hours ahead - combine 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water in a small saucepan, stir, and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and cool.
You will need:
-Fifth of white rum - Bicardi or Tommy Bahama
-1 cup chilled lime juice - I used to fresh squeeze it, but found that bottled is just as good and a lot less work. If you use fresh squeeze, include the pulp.
-club soda, chilled
-Angostura aromatic bitters - optional
In a large (60 oz.) pitcher:
Muddle the mint in the bottom of the pitcher until the leaves are well crushed and the fragrance released. I use a wooden spoon with a long handle.
Add the lime juice, fill the pitcher a little more than half way with the white rum, top it off with the club soda, the syrup to taste and a few dashes of bitters if you like them. You might not want to use the entire cup of syrup, I use about 3/4 cup, so taste as you add it. Stir gently.
Serve over ice in a tall glass. Garnish with a thin slice of lime and sprig of mint. If you can find it, add a sugar cane stick to each glass.
Some people add ice to the pitcher, I don't. It waters down the mix as it melts.
Cheers...........

Once a day, twice a week, more, less, be honest.
I drink very little and almost never alone, by contrast my dad drank from sun up to sun down, never drunk but always under the influence.
I saw him down a hot beer out of the trunk of his car on a Sunday morning once just to start his day.
I really enjoy a drink when the time is right but don't enjoy it any other time.
Another question I'm curious about,
How many smoke weed?
Sometimes, ever, all the time?
Back in my twenties I chose smoking over drinking, but I have always done both, I think the weed for me at least offers more benefits than alcohol.
But that's just me...... sucks that you must commit a crime to choose one over the other.
Whatever turns your crank I hope you don't get behind the wheel of a car and involve anyone else, or have them involve you in the same way.
I'm bored, how bored are you?
LOL..........................................................

Haven't smoked in 20 years, but back then, there were days when it was sun-up to sundown.

I think I went twenty years without a drink, but I smoked..............until my first son was born I was high for fifteen years prior, every moment, then I stopped for about the same length of time.
Now it's just every once in a while.
I wonder sometimes what I'd be like if it had been alcohol instead of weed for that fifteen years.

I was high for fifteen years prior, every moment,
I knew people like that, and just couldn't understand how they did it, functioned at an acceptable capacity. Must be different for everyone.
I wonder sometimes what I'd be like if it had been alcohol instead of weed for that fifteen years

I can do either, or none at all, for me is has more to do with the situation than the device.

"I feel sorry for people that don't drink, because when they wake up in the morning, that is the best they are going to feel all day"
Frank SINATRA
I'll take a nice single-malt on the rocks. Prefer Oban.
Never smoke.
Merry Christmas. Be safe! Never drink and drive. Call a tow truck and send the bill to your insurance agent. Better than a cab. You'll have your car in the morning
