cat, got him to. big black brindle, stunk like hell, funny how they have evolved, only source was domestic pets obviously but they have become a dark brindle / sable kind of color, very large and huge teeth set. there is no other species of animal they could have crossed with so from pet cats to a legitimate feral that only vaguely resembles any known pet variety that they came from. you still see the more domestic like looking ones in the same populations just selective breeding / (the e word) going on right before yr eyes.
went for the hollow log and not up a tree, no matter, just as dead either way. i am a bit of a hero with the environmentalists and hippies who manage a nearby bird sanctuary, lets just say they have bad vision and hearing when i am around and i go un-hassled.

Pests are always in season.
I wondered if it was wild ferel or not.
We have them here too...... mostly because people dump them out in the country.
I'm a bit bewildered at finding a flying squirrel in the possession of one of my dogs today, don't have a clue how she came by it.
They are nocturnal, I'm thinking something else killed it but that's odd too.
Dunno.

what do squirrels eat? i would be concerned it may have been poisoned and yr dog picked it up. we have many dogs lost to picking up rodents that have been poisoned in crops. our working dogs have to wear muzzles all day in the hot sun so they don't pick up a rat that may have rat bait in it or such. all the BS about training a dog to not pick stuff up might work in a trial but is complete BS in the real world.

Saw a red fox this evening -young. Was standing out under the stars with my wife talking. This thing obviously heard us, and when I heard him, I flashed the light on him, and he just kind of lazily turned around and trotted back into the brush. He couldn't have been more than 15 feet away. Never seen that out of a fox. I'm concerned he may be rabid.

you can keep that rabies, what if the thing was just curious?
